Assistant Principal's Update

Hello Clifton Hill Primary School Community,
As this is my first newsletter for the year, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all Foundation level families and to our new student’s in other year levels. It has certainly been a busy start to the year.
This week we held our first school council meeting for the year. I would like to introduce our 2026 school council to you, and we look forward to meeting in person at one of the community building or fundraising events (look out for news and notifications of upcoming events on our social media pages or in this newsletter).
Our 2026 school council members are:
Parent Members: Mary-Helen McIlroy, Megan Considine, Sarah Wells, Tom Shepherd, Anthony Aisenberg, Christy Kerr and Kate Crowe.
Community Member: Fiona Slattery
Teacher Members: Megan Smith, Susan Williamson and Gareth Buck.
It has been lovely to greet students and families as they arrive each morning at the school gate and as classroom doors open at 8.50am watching students move mindfully through the school to enter their classrooms in a calm manner ready to learn. The teacher’s have been working with all students in the classroom to set up co-constructed classroom routines. The predictability and structure creates a space where students know exactly what behaviour is expected of them, and as such they are more likely to demonstrate these behaviours in the classroom. This proactive approach reduces disruptions and promotes a culture of respect and responsibility within the classroom.
Finally, a friendly reminder regarding drop off and pick up times particularly in Page Street, please speak to your children about only ever crossing in the centre strip where cars do not have access. The end of Page St sees many cars exiting and turning and it is an unsafe crossing point. We encourage parents, where possible to drop off and pick up in Gold St in the two minute stopping area.
Just a reminder that tomorrow is a student-free day due to Parent/Teacher meetings.
Have a great week,
Susan Williamson-Petrie
