Through the Leadership Lens

Dear Parents,
At our school, there is nothing more important than the safety, wellbeing, and happiness of our students. As part of our ongoing commitment to creating a secure environment, we regularly review our practices in line with the Child Safe Standards.
These standards aren’t just a set of rules for staff; they are a shared community responsibility. They guide how we think about safety in the classroom, on school grounds, and even during those busy transition times at the start and end of the school day.
While we often think of child safety in terms of online security or emotional wellbeing, it equally applies to physical environments, including our school carpark. Safety isn't just about what happens inside the school gates and by modeling safe, respectful behaviour outside the gates, we teach our children how to navigate the world securely.
The school carpark during drop-off and pick-up times is one of the busiest areas of our school day. To align with our commitment to child safety, we need everyone’s cooperation to ensure our carpark remains a hazard-free zone.
When driving or walking through the school, please remember the Four Golden Rules:
- Slow Down: Stick to the speed limits. A few seconds saved is never worth a child’s safety.
- Stay Alert: Children can be unpredictable and small enough to be hidden in a vehicle’s blind spot. Please put away mobile phones and avoid distractions.
- Use Designated Crossings: Always use the pedestrian crossings. Walking between parked cars sets a dangerous example for our students.
- Patience is Key: We know everyone is busy, but a calm carpark is a safe carpark. Please be courteous to staff on duty and fellow drivers.
We have been workshopping a variety of procedures for our front carpark to ensure the safety of all community members. It has been decided that bollards will be placed down the middle of the driveway. This will divert all foot traffic to the supervised pedestrian crossing when entering or exiting the school. It will now also mean that cars requiring parking at the office carpark will now only be able to turn left towards the oval and join the existing traffic.
Many thanks for your continued support,
Alyce
