EATING BREAKFAST
Recently, we have noticed that some children are arriving at school without having had breakfast. This can affect their energy levels, concentration and readiness to learn throughout the day. We understand that mornings can sometimes be busy, and ensuring children eat breakfast is not always easy. To support families, we have included the Raising Children Network webpage below, which provides helpful information about the importance of a healthy breakfast and practical ideas for busy mornings.
A friendly reminder that our Breakfast Club is available every school day and is open to all learners. Children can enjoy warm toast with a variety of spreads before school. Breakfast Club is located outside the Brigidine Centre at the window closest to Brennan Community. During winter, children who bring a reusable Keep Cup can also enjoy a warm Milo.
If you or your family would benefit from additional support in this area, please don't hesitate to reach out. We are always here to help.

CLASSROOM MASTERY
Last week, Jo Griffin from Classroom Mastery visited our school to observe our practices and provided valuable support and feedback for our learners and staff. Jo was impressed with the routines we have established at SME, including the Entry and Exit procedures, Whiteboard, and Cue to Start. Having these routines helps our children understand expectations, fosters predictability and purpose, which we know can contribute to reducing undesirable behaviours. Jo also commented on the warm and genuine interactions among our staff and learners, as well as our proactive presentation of visuals and displays, highlighting the inclusive environment we promote. It was a wonderful day to celebrate our many successes and the overall reduction in challenging behaviours at SME. Additionally, the Classroom Mastery team expressed interest in collaborating with us to showcase our practices to other Classroom Mastery schools. We welcomed this opportunity. Congratulations to everyone for your hard work and dedication!
TRADING DAY FRIDAYS
Each Friday at lunchtime, the library is available as a supervised space where children may trade collectible cards. This is typically AFL cards, although some students also trade Pokémon cards.
To help ensure trading remains fair and positive, all trades are considered final and must be checked by the teacher on duty before being completed. If your child chooses to bring cards to school for trading, please be aware that these items remain their responsibility.
Recently, we have also noticed an increase in Ooshies being brought to school. While children enjoy collecting and sharing these items, we ask families to remind their children that Ooshies are not to be in classrooms during learning time. They should remain safely stored in school bags. We appreciate your support in helping us maintain a respectful and focused learning environment for all.

Fit Fridays are Here!
Strong Body. Calm Mind. Ready to Learn!
We are excited to introduce Fit Fridays, a brand-new initiative led by our amazing SME Wellness Warriors with support from Miss Keath!
Every Friday morning from 8:30am in the Passive Play Area, students (and their families!) are invited to kick-start the day with a variety of fun movement challenges, fitness games and great music.
Fit Fridays are all about:
- Building positive connections and friendships
- Starting the day with a happy, positive mindset
- Moving our bodies to wake up our brains
- Feeling calm, energised and ready to learn
Research shows that even a short burst of movement before school can improve focus, mood, confidence and learning throughout the day. Most importantly, it's a fun way for our whole school community to come together and enjoy being active.
Expect great tunes, lots of smiles and plenty of energy!
Families are warmly invited to join us each Friday from 8:30am. Whether you stay for five minutes or the whole session, we would love to see you moving, laughing and helping us create a positive start to the school day.
We can't wait to see you at Fit Fridays!
