Solemnity of Christ the King

This Sunday, the Catholic Church celebrates the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, a pivotal feast in the Catholic liturgical calendar instituted to affirm Christ's supreme sovereignty over all creation, humanity, and history. Celebrated annually on the last Sunday of Ordinary Time, this solemnity crowns the liturgical year by directing the faithful's gaze toward the eschatological fulfilment of God's kingdom, where Christ reigns not through worldly power but through divine love, sacrifice, and truth. It encourages reflection on the surprising nature of this kingship, seen most clearly in Christ’s self-giving on the Cross, and invites people to embody its values through lives marked by compassion, integrity, and service to others.

Collect

Almighty ever-living God,

whose will is to restore all things

in your beloved Son, the King of the universe,

grant, we pray,

that the whole creation, set free from slavery,

may render your majesty service

and ceaselessly proclaim your praise.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.

Amen
