Year 7 News

It's hard to believe we are already at the midpoint of the year. This term has been filled with many positive experiences and achievements. Throughout the term, our students have been actively engaging in a wide range of learning opportunities across all curriculum areas, demonstrating curiosity, growth, and a commitment to their education.

This week, one of the major highlights of the year took place as our Year 7 students headed off to Camp Coolamatong! The camp provided students with a wonderful chance to challenge themselves, try new activities, and build their resilience. Whether riding bikes along picturesque trails, taking part in team challenges, or enjoying a range of outdoor activities, students demonstrated courage, resilience, and teamwork. The enthusiasm, encouragement, and positive attitudes displayed throughout the camp helped create lasting memories and strengthened friendships among the group.

Attitudes to School 

Recently, all Year 7 students completed the annual Attitudes to School Survey. This survey provides students with an opportunity to share their perspectives on their learning experiences, sense of safety, connectedness, and wellbeing at school. The information collected is invaluable in helping us understand what is working well and where we can continue to improve, ensuring we provide the best possible learning environment and support for all students.

House Championships

Congratulations to Siddle, who continue to lead the way in the House Championships and have bulit a significant lead heading into the middle of the year. 

Siddle – 5887 points

Freeman – 4669 points

Thorpe – 4439 points

Forsyth – 4361 points

Attendance

This year, our aim is to improve student attendance rates to an average above 95%. If your student is absent, please contact Kurnai’s absence hotline message bank on (03) 5165 0600 - option 1 or contact Ross Johnson directly via Compass. 

KPAs

Kurnai Positive Acknowledgements (KPAs) is the positive reinforcement system at Kurnai College that rewards students for demonstrating the school's pillars: work ethic, engagement, relationships, and excellence.

Contact Details 

I will be taking leave during Week 9 and potentially Week 10 of this term. During my absence, Denise Cairnduff will oversee the day-to-day operations of Year 7 and will be the main point of contact for any Year 7 matters. I am confident that students and families will continue to receive excellent support while I am away.
