STATE SWIMMING CHAMPS - Lachie and Alfred
It was wonderful being able to watch Alfred H and Lachy L in electrifying action at the State Swimming Championships via the LIVESTREAM VIDEO in the first week back of this term.
LACHLAN LEVER :
Lachie was awarded 2nd in Freestyle MC and 2nd in Backstroke MC at the Region Finals, but this performance in his backstroke earnt him an invitation to the State Championships in his Multi-Class Classification, based on his times.
Then, with a PERSONAL BEST TIME AT THE STATE FINALS, he managed to take out the....
GOLD MEDAL for 1st in the Backstroke
STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS this year!
I don't think he could quite believe it! He needed to stare at the print out results to let it sink in.
ALFRED HINDLE:
After finishing 1st in Freestyle MC and 1st in Butterfly Multi-Class Events at last term's Southern Metro Region Finals, although Alfred was suffering badly from an ear infection, he still competed very strongly being awarded:
BRONZE MEDAL for 3rd at the State Championships for Butterfly
AND SILVER MEDAL for 2nd at State Championships for Freestyle this year!
We could not be prouder of both of these inspirational and dedicated swimmers! An extraordinary effort from both Lachie and Alfred! The Livestream can be played back. See the boys win their medals here on the LINK below:

What a wonderful day of sunshine, colour, fun and entertainment (not to mention some sensational pace witnessed within the long distance races!) All students from Prep to Year 6 were given age-appropriate distances to test their endurance and determination. Congratulations to ALL RUNNERS WHO COMPLETED THEIR RACE! You received a ribbon and earnt valuable points for your House Team, with McAuley (red) the eventual winners on the day, following some key contributions from the many parents and grandparents who also participated, collecting house points that shifted the tallies considerably!
House Points Tally :
1st MCAULEY (250 points), 2nd MAZENOD (196 points), 3rd MANNIX (185 points) and 4th BUNURONG (177 points). So close between the last three.......well done to the parents who ran to collect 10 house points for their child's team at the end!

WHAT'S NEXT?? DISTRICT CROSS COUNTRY: Students from Years 3 to 6 who finished in the top 8 in the School Cross Country will now compete in St Joseph's Cross Country Team at the District Event next Wednesday 8th May.
PLEASE NOTE: As advised, the 8/9 and 10 Year Age Group is combined at the district day, which is why we ran these age groups together last Monday for trialling purposes, but awarded ribbons in the separate age groups.
An Operoo was sent out to these qualifying students yesterday. IF THERE ARE ANY PARENTS WHO COULD PLEASE ASSIST ME WITH TRANSPORTING AND/OR SETTING UP THE SCHOOL MARQUEE ON THE DISTRICT DAY, I WOULD BE MOST APPRECIATIVE!
Cross Country Training with SCHOOL COMMUNITY SPIRIT!
We've started off with a bang, with over 43 students signed up for this training over the past two Fridays, specifically tailored to training for the Cross Country School Events. It will continue for four more Fridays at Sorrento Primary School from 8.10-8.40am. Even if you have not qualified for the District Cross Country, all students from Year 3 to 6 who are interested in long distance running may join us. We are very privileged to have the experience of Commonwealth Games long distance runner, Jannica Cleary, helping to run this session each Friday. She has given us many useful tips, including what to do if you get a stitch, how to stride lightly in your running steps and many other great tips for recovery after you run.
Thank you so much to Assunta, Millie and Angie for helping to prepare the breakfast each Friday for our hungry runners and for Jannica and the parents who assist as checkpoint officials.
Last week's Summer Lightning Premierships
Our students had a great day out and braved the small amount of intermittent rain across the day. With 4 teams of basketball, 2 teams of Volleystars and a new version of Fully Lopaded Softball with one team, we were equipped and ready to have a fun day of competitioon against the otther nibe schools of the district. Special thanks to all of the parents who helped out with coaching, scoring and washing uniforms for us and also to the Year 4s who filled in on the day. Below are some photos of the day!
VOLLEYSTARS : Our Girls Volleystars WON overall on the day with an exciting grandfinal, becoming the Phillip District Volleystars Champions for 2024.
BASKETBALL: Our four teams had a mixture of wins and losses but enjoyed the strong competition.
SOFTBALL: The boys thoroughly enjoyed the day out with one win and a couple of losses.
