Principal's Page

Dear Families,

We have had a busy start to Term Two and it has been wonderful to see so many members of our community involved. I have been busily showing many prospective families around our school and I feel extremely proud of how settled and engaged the students are in their learning.

May is traditionally a time in the Catholic faith where we focus on Mary and her qualities of faith, hope and love. We also think of our own mothers and mother figures with gratitude for the contributions they make to our lives.

Lord,

At this special time, we show our gratitude for all mothers and mother figures.

We thank them for their all-encompassing love, for their commitment, care and kindness.

We thank them for their wisdom, for helping us grow and flourish.

We thank them for their strength, for their sacrifices, and for being there in times of need.

And we thank them for their encouragement, for being our cheer leaders and celebrating our achievements.

Lord, help Mothers know how much they are loved and appreciated.

We ask that you bless all Mothers, including those who are no longer with us today.

Amen.

Mother's Day Stall and Special Breakfast

Thank you to Giulia for organising our Mother's Day Stall next Thursday. Students are asked to bring some money in an envelope to purchase some gifts from the stall. Gifts are priced between $2 and $10. An Opreoo was sent out yesterday inviting Mother's or Grandmother's or VIPs to a special breakfast next Friday morning.

Ryan Robinson Update

I would like to let you all know that Ryan's surgery was successful and he is now recovering at home. Thank you for your enquiries and well wishes.

Megan Barber On Long Service Leave

Megan Barber will be on leave for four weeks commencing this Friday. Mr Philip Whelan will be in 5/6 each Friday Megan is away. We look forward to hearing about her European adventures when she returns.

Child Safety

A reminder to please come through the office if you need to speak to your child so that we are always aware of who is on our property. All communication also needs to go through the office. Please call if an important message needs to be given to your child as staff do not check their emails during the day if they are teaching or supervising students outside.

Sacrament of Penance/Reconciliation

We keep the children celebrating the Sacrament of Penance tomorrow night in our thoughts and prayers. We hope they experience healing and growth.

Sorrento Writer's Festival

We were extremely fortunate to have so many talented authors and illustrators visit the Sorrento Schools last Friday. Thank you to Corrie Perkins for including the Children's Program, Laura MacDonald for coordinating the program and to Sorrento Rotary for the generous donation to the school from the funds they raised over the Sorrento Writers Festival weekend. The money donated will go towards purchasing books for our library and new decodable texts for the junior students to take home to practise their reading.

Cake Stall

Thank you to Catherine and Hope for organising the cake stall outside the Blairgowrie IGA on the weekend. Thank you to all our school community members who baked for the stall. Thank you the parents, staff and Joseph (Yr 6) who served on the stall. Several containers were left. Please pop into the office if you are missing one.

ANZAC Day

The ANZAC Day march and service was a special  community event to commemorate all Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations and the contribution and suffering of all those who have served. Thank you to the families that attended.

Cross Country

Thank you to Jenny Todd and all the parent volunteers that made the Cross Country event such a fabulous day. Congratulations McAuley on winning the points on the day.

Playgroup

A reminder to all families with pre-schoolers that the St Joey's Playgroup takes place each Thursday morning between 9:15 - 10:45am. Marg plans engaging activities. It is a great way for parents to meet and connect with one another.
