Assistant Principal Update

Hi Everyone,

As has been the theme of the last couple of newsletters, there is an enormous amount happening at APS at the moment. Today has been a wonderful day with our APS Multicultural Day celebrations. 

A huge thank you must go to Mengyue and our Grade 6 students for organising such engaging experiences and activities for our students. In fact, I can hear the drums from the music incursion as I write this!

Throughout this term, our students have participated in a wide range of exciting opportunities, including excursions, athletics events and incursions, with Grade 3 and 4 Camps, Book Week celebrations, concerts and more STOMP rehearsals still to come.

These experiences are a valuable part of APS life. They build confidence, create lasting memories and provide opportunities for students to learn in different environments. We encourage all students to embrace these experiences and make the most of the opportunities available to them.

At the same time, with so many exciting events occurring outside the classroom, it is important to remember just how valuable our time inside the classroom is.

One of our APS Learner Dispositions that has been front of mind for me recently is Determination. 

Learning is rarely about getting everything right the first time. Instead, learning often involves challenge, persistence and lots of practice. Whether a student is learning to decode unfamiliar words, master mathematical concepts or write a persuasive text, progress comes through effort and perseverance.

Alongside determination sits another important quality and one of our APS Values: Resilience. 

Every student will make mistakes throughout their learning journey. In fact, mistakes are not only normal, they’re an essential part of the learning process. The students and adults who experience the greatest growth are not those who avoid mistakes, but those who learn from them, seek feedback, keep practising and are willing to try again, and again, and again.

As we continue through this busy and exciting term, I encourage all students to enjoy the wonderful opportunities that APS provides outside of the classroom while also continuing to take pride in their learning in the classroom. Every lesson, every challenge and every opportunity to improve is a chance to develop the determination and resilience that will support them throughout the rest of the term, the rest of the year and beyond their time at APS.

Parent/Carer Opinion Survey

WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CARERS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK! 

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Carer Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies. 

The Parent / Carer Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 17 August to Friday 18 September 2026.All families are invited to participate in the survey vis the Compass notification that was sent on Monday 17 August containing the login details.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. 

The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / carers who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school directly for survey guides in your language.Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information.
