Book Week - Thank You!

Thanks to our Literacy Co-ordinator, Vicki Hajisava, for organising a great week of Book Week activities. All students have explored the short listed books for the Children’s Book Council of Australia book of the year. Class displays from the books are in full effect, and I have personally enjoyed being a special guest reader to read to the classes.

Our Book Parade was the pinnacle of the week. The quadrangle was full of book characters. I was amazed by the homemade creations this year. Thanks to Vicki for hosting the parade. I am looking forward seeing the photos captured by our amazing photographer, Janet from Hyggelig Photography. Thank you to all of our families for your efforts in helping your child create their costume characters.

Practice of our termly Emergency Drill - Code Orange - Lockdown 1

In Week 7 of every term, all students, staff and visitors practise our Emergency drills. On Wednesday 26th August, we practised our Code Orange - Lockdown Level 1 drill. Prior to the drill, teachers explained to students about what we need to do when the drill siren rings and also why we need to practise these drills.

The Code Orange - Lockdown Level 1 drill is a simple drill to practise for. The teachers lock all doors, and the students can continue with their learning as usual, while the teacher communicates all students’ attendance to the office team. Once the Term 3 practice drill finished, I made an announcement over the speakers to congratulate all students on a good practice, and discussed reasons for a Lockdown Level 1 drill, such as if there were a gas outside that compromised the clean air.

2026 Parent and Caregiver Opinion Survey  - please complete the survey

I have posted detailed instructions on Compass about accessing the 2026 Parent and Caregiver Opinion Survey. Your feedback is important to us, as it helps us further improve our school. The survey is open from Monday 17th August and closes on the last day of term, Friday 18th September. The survey is translatable into all the languages that our Dinjerra Community speaks at home. If you have any questions about the survey, please contact me.

So far, we have had 19 responses, which makes up 11% of our families. Your feedback is greatly appreciated, so please complete the survey if you have a spare 10 minutes.

Science Week and District Athletics:

Thanks to our STEM teacher, Ryan McCann, for a fantastic organisation of the Year 1-6 excursion to Scienceworks! As every child re-entered the school gate on Thursday afternoon, they were beaming and chattering about how much they enjoyed the day. It is a huge task, organising such a big excursion, thanks to Ryan for co-ordinating the event.

District Athletics - Thursday 20th August

Congratulations to the 31 student athletes who represented Dinjerra at the District Athletics on Thursday 20th August, Thanks to Cam Beatty, Mel Sokor, Antonella Ortiz and Karen Jones for taking our students to their second ever District Athletics carnival. It was a really successful day with lots of ribbons for our team! I heard back how our students represented Dinjerra really well on and off the track. They showed great grit, behaviour and sportsmanship. Go team! Thanks to Mr Beatty for organising. We have a few students who will go onto the next Division to represent Dinjerra on Tuesday 8th September.
