Sport News

Hello everyone,

For the final three weeks of Term 1, all students have been exploring the sport of lacrosse. It’s been fantastic to see everyone diving into this fast-paced, dynamic sport, many for the very first time. Throughout the sessions, students have been developing their hand-eye coordination through scooping, passing and shooting drills. Beyond the technical skills, the focus has been on teamwork and communication as they navigate the unique flow of the game. It’s been a joy to watch our students embrace the challenge of a new sport with such resilience. I would like to thank Adrian, Josh and Georgina from Gecko Sports for being such supportive and enthusiastic lacrosse coaches for these past few weeks. 

Division swimming 

A huge congratulations to Henry, Maverick, Tex and Dawson for competing at Division Swimming on Wednesday 25th March at Rosebud. What an outstanding achievement to represent our district! The team narrowly missed out on 3rd place in the freestyle relay. A special mention to Henry who came THIRD in the 9/10 boys individual Freestyle. 

Track athletics Term 2 Week 1

On Wednesday 22nd April, 57 of our students will represent St Brendan’s at District Athletics Track events. Participating students and their events are displayed in classrooms. We wish all our runners the very best of luck in Term 2, Week 1 as they fly down the straight and represent our school with speed and sportsmanship. 

Field athletics Term 2 Week 2 

On Friday 1st May, St Brendan’s students will be competing at District Athletics Field events. This has been a complicated process, due to the fact that some students won multiple events but could only choose to compete in one. Therefore, your child may have been selected even though they did not come in 1st, 2nd or 3rd position at our own Athletics Day. We look forward to celebrating all the personal bests and great sportsmanship out on the field!

Cross Country Term 2 Week 1

On Friday 24th April, we will be hosting our whole school St Brendan’s Cross Country. We are looking for volunteers to assist with Cross Country in the afternoon. If you are available and would like to help out on the day, please email me at  tporter@sbsomerville.catholic.edu.au or let Wendy or Louise at the office know.
