It was wonderful to see everyone dressed in orange, cultural attire, or the vibrant colors of their heritage on Monday. The theme of the day, reinforced during our Tribes session, was about celebrating inclusiveness, respect, and fostering a sense of belonging for all Australians. Our Year 6 leaders did an outstanding job guiding our first Multi-Age Tribes session, which centered on the Harmony Day theme of belonging. Their leadership and enthusiasm made the event truly special. To read more about the Tribes Session visit the Student Wellbeing page.
On Monday, we had at least 15 preschoolers, babies parents and grandparents attend our Storytime session. Children from the Park Orchards Early Learning Centre regularly join us with their educators, but many families are now discovering the program through local kinders, school tours, and word of mouth. It’s fantastic to welcome so many new faces to our school! Our wonderful Year 6 library team did a great job reading to the preschoolers and assisting with the craft activity. To see some photos from Storytime, please visit the Storytime page.
This weekend is the Warrandyte Festival, and our POPS choir will be representing the school! They will perform on Saturday March 29 on the Main Stage at 11:30 am. We encourage as many members of our school community as possible to come along and support the choir. A big thank you to Mrs Bowen for her dedication in preparing the choir for this performance. Additionally, we’re excited to announce that the choir will also perform during the final assembly of the term, on Friday, April 4, at 2 pm in the school gym.
Last Monday, the executive team of the Parents' Association met for a productive session with a great new mix of parents. The main topic of discussion was the Easter Raffle. Mrs Schafter and her team of Year 2 parents have done an amazing job securing a variety of prizes, including vouchers for different experiences, gift cards, and chocolate hampers. Families can encourage grandparents, aunts, uncles, and neighbors to purchase tickets, and buy tickets for them through My School Connect. To view the prizes, visit the Parents' Association page. I encourage everyone to buy a raffle ticket through My School Connect!
As mentioned in last week's newsletter, photos of the School Council members are now available on the School Council page, allowing the community to get to know them. If you have any questions or would like to raise matters for discussion at School Council meetings, feel free to speak with a council member. For school based operational issues, we encourage parents and community members to contact me or Mrs Bullen directly.
Good luck to Emma-Rose, a POPS parent, as she takes on a 100km run tomorrow (Friday, March 28) to support Eastern Health Hospitals! If you're near Eastland at 6 pm, head to the Town Square to cheer her on as she finishes.
It is not too late to donate, see flyer below.
Have a great weekend,
Ms Garrity
