Noah Claims Golden Boot at National Championships

A gold medal, a Golden Boot and All Australian selection.

Congratulations to Noah (Year 12) on an exceptional performance at the SSA Australian Championship, where he captained the Victorian state team to its first gold medal in 30 years.

Victoria went through the tournament undefeated, with Noah also awarded the Golden Boot for the tournament and selected in the All Australian Team.

Beyond his performance on the pitch, Noah was recognised for his leadership, respect for officials and the positive way he represented himself, his team and Mazenod. He was also formally interviewed and invited to speak at the closing ceremony.

This follows Noah’s recent selection in the 2026 ACC Team of the Year, continuing an exceptional season of achievement. Well done, Noah!

Languages Week Brings the World to Our College

Colour, language and culture have filled the College throughout Languages Week.

From 27 to 31 July, students took part in a wide range of activities celebrating Chinese, Japanese and Italian language and culture, including origami, kendama, bocce, chopstick races, Chinese Jianzi, Jian Shen Dragon activities, film, food and games.

Languages Week gives students the chance to engage with culture beyond the classroom, try something new and recognise the value of learning through shared experience.

VCE Subject Selection Expo

Choosing a VCE pathway is an important step, and last night’s VCE Subject Selection Expo gave over 200 Year 10 students and their families the opportunity to explore future options with guidance and support.

Students attended with their parents and carers to hear from key staff about subject selection, VCE pathways and opportunities beyond the College.

Families also spoke with faculty staff, learning more about the subjects on offer and how different areas of study can support each student’s interests, strengths and future goals.

Thank you to all staff, students and families who contributed to an informative and well-supported evening.

State Championship Success for Mazenod Music

A standout day for Mazenod Music at the Victorian Bands’ League Solo and Ensemble Championships.

Held at Carey Grammar, this year’s Championships attracted more than 490 entries, with 40 Mazenod students competing across brass, woodwind, percussion and ensemble events. Congratulations to our State Champions:

Lyndon — Junior Saxophone

Lucas — Junior Kit/Multi Percussion

Ciaran — Junior Soprano Cornet

Mazenod Senior Drumline — Junior Ensemble

We also congratulate Francis, Ryan, Ciaran, the Mazenod Brass Ensemble and the Mazenod Clarinet Ensemble on their podium results.

Our Instrumental Music staff had an exceptional weekend, with Ms Cate Waugh named Open French Horn Champion, Mr Chris Lee winning both Open Tenor Trombone and Open Bass Trombone, and Ms Naomi Whimpey placing in Open Trumpet and Open Quartet.

A special congratulations to Mr George Melitsis, who won multiple Open sections before being named Open Brass Champion of Champions for the second-year running, and for the fifth time in seven years.

Senior School Semester 1 Awards

On 24 July, students in Years 10–12 gathered to celebrate the achievements of their peers at the Senior School Semester 1 Awards Assembly. The assembly recognised students who have demonstrated exceptional commitment and made positive contributions within their Pastoral Groups throughout the semester.

Awards were presented for Christian Leadership, Academic Excellence, and Commitment and Perseverance, acknowledging students who consistently model the College's values through their character, dedication, and approach to learning. These achievements reflect the College's commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals who strive for personal excellence while making a positive difference in the lives of others.

While the awards celebrated outstanding accomplishments, students were also encouraged to remember that every learning journey is different. Recognition on the day represents just one measure of success, and many students have shown significant growth, resilience, and determination throughout the semester. We encourage all students to take pride in their progress, continue setting meaningful goals, and embrace every opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute positively to our College community.
