Victorian Band and Solo Music Ensemble Championships
On Saturday 25 July, the Victorian Bands’ League Solo and Ensemble Championships were held at Carey Grammar. This year's Championships attracted over 490 entries.
Mazenod had 40 students represent the College throughout the day, competing across brass, woodwind, percussion and ensemble events. Their commitment, preparation and musicianship were on full display, resulting in an outstanding set of achievements.
Our students enjoyed several exceptional results, including:
Student(s) / Ensemble | Event | Result |
Lyndon Hyunseo Lim | Under 22 Saxophone | State Champion |
Lucas Ryan | Under 22 Multi-Kit | State Champion |
Ciaran Ellwood | Under 22 Soprano Cornet | State Champion |
Francis Darmawan | Under 22 Clarinet | 2nd Place |
Ryan Kim | Under 22 Clarinet | 3rd Place |
Ciaran Ellwood | Under 22 Duet | 3rd Place |
Mazenod Senior Drumline | Under 22 Ensemble | State Champions |
Mazenod Brass Ensemble | Under 22 Ensemble | Runner-up |
Mazenod Clarinet Ensemble | Under 22 Ensemble | 3rd Place |
Beyond these award-winning performances, many other Mazenod students achieved excellent results. Very pleasingly, many of the volunteers made the effort seek out our staff, to comment on the outstanding manners, friendliness and deportment of the Mazenod students – they’re a special bunch.
We extend our sincere thanks to the students for outstanding commitment to performing, our instrumental music staff for their dedication and guidance, and to all the families and teachers who continue to encourage and support our students in pursuing their musical goals.
Languages Week
Last week we celebrated the rich tapestry of languages and cultures during our much-awaited Languages Week! The College came alive with vibrant activities and engaging events that highlighted the diversity of languages spoken by our students and their families. Thank you to the Languages Faculty and parents and families who are involved in the festivities, sharing their native languages and cultural heritage with our students.
Science Week
At Mazenod College, Science Week is a vibrant celebration of discovery and innovation. Students immerse themselves in hands-on experiments, interactive workshops, showcasing their passion for science. The week features exciting competitions, science fairs, that inspire curiosity and critical thinking. This annual event takes place between the 15th – 23rd of August fostering a sense of community and enthusiasm for learning.
Victorian Volleyball State Schools Cup
The Victorian Volleyball State Schools Cup is a highlight of our school's sporting calendar, bringing together students from several year levels to display their skills on the court. With determination and dedication, our teams have been practicing rigorously, honing their techniques, and strategizing to be at their best during the tournament.
Beyond the competition, the Volleyball provides an opportunity for our school community to come together, cheer on our teams, and celebrate the spirit of friendly rivalry. Students, teachers, and parents alike unite to support our players and share in the excitement of the matches. May this event inspire our students to embrace the values of teamwork, resilience, and fair play that extend far beyond the court and into all aspects of their lives. Congratulations to all coaches and players.
All the best,
Dr Paul Shannon
Principal
