The Benefits of OGEA Membership

March Primaries and the South Bay Labor Council

By Bob Prola, OGEA Vice President (bobprola@gmail.com)

Did you know that OGEA is a member of the South Bay Labor Council?

The South Bay Labor Council is a collection of local unions focused on increasing worker power in Santa Clara County. OGEA sends delegates to their monthly meetings to help make decisions and learn about local labor issues. Our current delegates are Alejandra Martinez, Nashely Villalvazo, Bob Prola, and Maripaz Berlin. We are entitled to a 5th delegate, so let OGEA leadership know if you are interested in participating.

One of the most important ways that the SBLC increases the power of workers in our county is by helping to elect worker-friendly candidates to local offices, including school boards. As a member union, OGEA gets to help decide who gets an endorsement. Please review this list of local endorsements when you fill out your ballot for the March primary election. https://www.southbaylabor.org/march_2024_endorsements

(Note: A "sole endorsement" means SBLC is actively trying to help a candidate get elected through precinct walking, phone banks, and mailers. An "open endorsement" simply means that SBLC is not opposed to a candidate, but they didn't meet the threshold to receive support from the whole labor council.)

Additionally, don't forget to take a look at CTA’s statewide endorsements when you fill out your ballot. https://www.cta.org/our-advocacy/election-2024/cta-recommendations-2024

Your ballot is due on March 5. Don't forget to vote!
