From our Principal

Dear parents and carers,

We arrived this morning to find half the school hidden in fog, a chilly surprise as we come to the end of Term Two and head into the winter school holiday break. Our students have done a terrific job across the term. Thank you to everyone involved in supporting the teaching, learning, and extra-curricular opportunities for our student community.

A reminder that tomorrow students have the opportunity to watch the Australia vs. Paraguay game at school. If students would like to, they can wear some green and gold with their school uniform. Fingers crossed we can get a result that sees us progress!

Please note that with tomorrow being the final day of Term Two, students will be dismissed early from their classrooms at 2:30 pm.

NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week celebrations will take place from the 5th-12th July. At Aspendale Primary School we celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the first week of Term Three. 

This year's theme is '50 Years Deadly'. Our Year Six student leaders have been busy preparing this year's NAIDOC videos to help our community learn more. 

Semester One Reports and Student-led Conferences

It was wonderful to walk through the school on Monday and see students sitting with their families and teachers to talk through their learning achievements across Semester One and speak about future learning goals. We appreciate the investment our parent and carer community has in their children’s learning and are grateful for your attendance at our conferences. Thank you to our staff for your preparation for these meetings.

Yesterday, our Semester One reports were published via the Compass Parent Portal. These reports contain an assessment of your child’s progress against the curriculum and our third round of continuous reports for 2025. The report builds upon the previous two rounds of continuous reports already published this semester. Thank you to our staff for their work compiling these reports to provide further information to parents and carers about their child’s learning progress. A special thank you to Chloe Orr, our Reporting Leader, for managing the process.

Victorian High Ability Program

This term, we have had students across Years Five and Six complete either the literacy or numeracy component of the Victorian High Ability Program. Students are identified both by the Department of Education and the school to participate in the program.

Students sign in with an online teacher and work with students from other schools to enrich their understanding of the curriculum. Our literacy students looked at narrative techniques, identifying these in different stories and then using them in their own writing. Our numeracy students looked further into different number systems and then utilized statistical analysis to decipher codes.

Well done to our first round of students in 2026 for completing the unit. We look forward to the next round of students participating in Term Three. Thanks to Caitlin Beer for her organization of this program.

Year 5 & 6 Lightning Premiership

On Friday and Monday, we had students across Years 5 and 6 compete in the Chelsea District Winter Lightning Premiership. Students played football, soccer, netball, and T-ball against other schools. It was great to hear of our students competing in the spirit we expect across all sports. Thanks to our staff involved, with a special thank you to Katie Scott for her organization across all of the sports.

Uniform Reminder

A reminder about the need for our students to wear full school uniform. Please refer to the section further in the newsletter which goes into more detail. The school holidays can be a good time to visit our uniform provider or a shopping centre.

2027 Foundation Enrolments

If you have a child starting school in 2027, enrolments are now open. As of 2026, enrolments have moved online; the link is provided below. When you access the link, you will create an account and enrol your child from the account. This is a new process for schools in our area. If you would like assistance, please contact the office and we are happy to help.
