Number  Algebra  Measurement  Space  Statistics  Probability

In Mathematics, we will continue to build students' mathematical proficiencies of Understanding, Fluency, Problem Solving and Reasoning across all learning strands.  Below is an overview of some of the core concepts covered in each strand:

Number:

  • Revising addition and subtraction strategies from last term, including counting on,  counting back, friendly numbers, doubles and halves
  • Combining addition and subtraction to explore more advanced addition and subtraction strategies, such as fact families, partitioning into place value parts and commutativity
  • Integrating addition and place value with financial mathematics to solve money related problems
  • Deepening students’ fluency and understanding of numbers up to 120 and beyond, particularly in terms of place value
  • Further exploring the concept of sharing, leading to representing practical modelling of division, multiplication and fractions
  • Continuing to develop strategies for problem solving in real life scenarios, requiring students to explain their thinking and reasoning

Algebra:

  • Consolidating skip counting (by 10s, 5s and 2s) and pattern identification skills to help find solutions in Maths tasks across all learning areas

Measurement:

  • Estimating, measuring and ordering the capacity of objects
  • Reading the time on digital and analogue clocks

Statistics:

  • Gathering data by asking questions and representing findings on a graph
  • Analysing and interpreting information from graphs to summarise the key findings and draw conclusions

Space:

  • Recognising, naming and describing 3D shapes/objects and their features
  • Creating 3D shapes/object using hands-on materials

We will also be revisiting previously learnt topics, as part of our ongoing revision process, which helps students activate prior knowledge and retain concepts into their long term memory.
