Looking for ways to keep your teen reading and engaged? The latest Scholastic Book Club Issue 3 is packed with exciting options for every kind of reader!

Premiers' Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge (PRC) is officially OPEN, and Kurunjang Secondary College is excited to be part of it! Students and families are encouraged to get involved and make reading a regular habit.

 

🌟 What is the PRC?

The PRC is a fun and rewarding way for students to discover new books, track their reading, and challenge themselves. The online platform includes:

  • A huge library catalogue with book covers and blurbs
  • Milestone badges to celebrate progress 🏅
  • Options to favourite books, rate them ⭐, and write reviews

 

📅 Important Dates

The challenge runs until Friday 4th September, giving students plenty of time to reach their reading goals.

 

📖 How It Works

To complete the challenge, students need to:

  1. Read books
  2. Add them to the PRC website
  3. Rate each book out of 5 stars ⭐

Students are also encouraged to write short reviews to help others find great reads!

 

🎯 The Challenge

Students need to read 15 books:

  • 10 Challenge books (available in the school library – check out the PRC display!)
  • 5 Choice books (anything they like)

 

🏆 Awards & Prizes

Students who complete the challenge will receive:

  • A certificate signed by current and past Premiers
  • A PRC badge

They will also be invited to an end-of-year Pizza Party in the library 🍕 and receive raffle tickets for prizes such as book vouchers and chocolates.

Melton Libraries - Short Story Competition

Calling all aspiring writers and storytellers! Melton City Libraries Short Story Competition is back for 2026. 

 

Now in its 21st year, the annual Short Story Competition is a great opportunity for creatives of all kinds to showcase their talents and have their work reviewed by popular authors. And it’s not just for writers! Your short story can be presented in any format including text, illustration, video, verse, voice, or a combination of any of the above.  

Entries are open to anyone aged 5 years and over who lives, works, or studies in the City of Melton. 

 

Written entries should be no more than 3000 words for adults or 1500 words for juniors and young adults. For other story formats, aim for something that takes no more than 5 minutes to experience.

 

Prizes will be awarded to the best entries in Junior, Teen and Adult categories, as chosen by our expert panel of judges.  

 

Entries Open: Monday 4 May 2026 

Entries Close: 11.59pm, Friday 10 July 2026 

 

How to enter: All entries must be submitted online.

Chess Tournament - Friday 22nd May

Our annual KSC Chess Tournament will be held this term, and we’re excited to see so many students already signed up! It’s fantastic to see such enthusiasm for the event.

There are still a limited number of places available for students who would like to take part. If you’re interested, please see Mr DeLeon in the library to secure your spot. We look forward to another great tournament!

 

Don't forget - Chess Club is on in the library - Friday at lunchtime.
