Courts upgrade

Exciting sports courts upgrade coming soon

At St Columba's, we want to provide the best learning and teaching facilities for our students and staff. As part of our long-term school refurbishment plan, we’re excited to announce a major upgrade to our outdoor play spaces!

From 17 March, work will begin on resurfacing and upgrading our two sports courts, including drainage and fencing improvements, to create a safer and more stimulating play area for our students. This $250,000 project, delivered by GrassSports, will provide a high-quality, multi-sport surface designed for basketball, netball, soccer, AFL, futsal, and handball — with students and sports teacher Mrs. Braithwaite helping to choose the line markings! Construction will take approximately four weeks, including the school holidays (4-21 April).

Managing play space during works

To ensure students still have plenty of opportunities for play safely during recess and lunch, we will:

  • Implement a playground roster, allocating spaces to different year levels.
  • Offer lunchtime clubs, including Library (Mon/Tues), STEAM (Wed), Games Club (Thurs), with an additional club on Fridays.

This upgrade is part of our broader three-to-five-year master plan to enhance our school facilities, with support from Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools. We are proud to co-contribute to this vision and welcome support from families, the parish, community, and local businesses. If you would like to contribute, please contact us to discuss.

We appreciate your patience and support as we create a fantastic new space for our students to enjoy! Stay tuned for updates on the project and how you can help us celebrate the opening in Term 2.

In addition to the sports courts upgrade, the school is also carrying out essential maintenance and improvements, including roofing and plumbing repairs. Additionally, new carpet will be installed in the Year 1 and Year 2 classrooms, as well as at the top of the stairs (just outside the Prep room in the junior learning area), and the staff kitchen will receive new lino flooring.
