SAC News

The 2025 School Advisory Committee (SAC) met for the first time on February 11th. Our role is to help Daniella and the team with the overall strategic direction of the school and major initiatives such as the sports courts upgrade.

In addition to returning members Laura Hill (Levi, Yr 2), Sam Mitchell (Leo, Yr 1) and Andrew Catterall (Stella Yr 2, Clementine Yr 6), we have welcomed new members Jon Ward (Alex Yr 2 and Ollie Yr 5), Ava Kahveci (Loki Yr 1), Pamela Hernandez (Lucas Yr 1 and Nina Prep) and Rachel Duckworth (Florence, Yr 1).

Our priorities for 2025 are to assist Daniella with:

  • The successful delivery of a series of capital upgrades including the sport courts and the roof in line with the Master Plan
  • Establishing a parent-led, ongoing major fundraising initiative that will build our capital reserves for these and future projects
  • Developing a brand communication and enrolment strategy to increase enrolments by circa 20% by 2028, whilst maintaining our outstanding student-teacher ratios and school amenity
  • Fostering stronger connections and mutual opportunities between the school community, the parish, Sacred Heart Mission and broader friends and alumni

We have resolved that the challenge to deliver one or two major fundraising initiatives each year requires more capacity, and different skills, than the SAC and PFA have.

Being part of the SAC and PFA is very rewarding but is a year-round commitment. That’s not for everyone.

However, we do think there are parents in our community who would like to get involved in the fun and rewarding experience of delivering one or two major initiatives for the school each year.

Our aim is to get more parents involved in coming with the idea and delivering:

  1. The refreshed school fete/market (Marqt) – rescheduled to May 17th
  2. A new major community event idea for late August/ September 2025.

The best ideas will:

  • Reflect the essence of our school community, whilst also
    • Engage a broader audience than just our existing network of enrolled families and
    • Create a platform we can build equity in and repeat each year for multiple years.
    • Be a lot of fun to be involved in and will generate a material financial contribution to our capital reserves.

We can be the Little School with a Big Heart… and Big Ideas.

All we need is willing people with an open mind and the ability to commit a burst of time to one project.  If you would like to get involved in being a part of this important initiative, please contact Daniella at dmaddalena@scelwood.catholic.edu.au
