Trafalgar Takes to the Green: Four Teams Compete at Divisional Bowls

Four Trafalgar Primary School teams took to the greens at the West Gippsland Divisional Lawn Bowls competition at Longwarry Bowls Club on Tuesday 18 August.

Selected students from Grades 5-6 represented our school across four teams, putting the skills they have developed through our Sport & Physical Education program into practice. Throughout the competition, students demonstrated accuracy, tactical awareness, communication and teamwork as they competed against schools from across West Gippsland.

With four teams representing Trafalgar, it was fantastic to see so many students embrace the opportunity to compete in a sport that continues to be an important part of our interschool sporting program.

A huge congratulations to all students who represented our school. Their effort, teamwork and commitment throughout the competition were excellent, and we look forward to recognising their achievements.

Pedal Power: Bike Education Gets Underway 

Our Grade 3-6 students have hit the ground rolling, with our AusBike Bike Education Program commencing this week in partnership with Cycling Australia.

The first session focused on developing essential bike control skills, with students working on balance, braking, steering and manoeuvring while building their confidence on two wheels. The program also introduces students to important road safety concepts and the knowledge they need to ride safely in a range of cycling situations.

It was fantastic to see students challenging themselves, developing new skills and enjoying the opportunity to learn through practical activities.

We have three sessions remaining, with Bike Education continuing on Thursday 27 August, Thursday 3 September and Thursday 10 September.

A reminder that students participating in the program should bring a roadworthy bike and helmet to each session. A small fleet of school bikes and helmets is also available for students who do not have access to suitable equipment.

Making a Splash: Junior Swimming Gets Underway

Our Foundation and Grade 1-2 students have made a fantastic start to our Junior Swimming Program, with the first two of our four swimming sessions now completed at Latrobe Leisure Moe Newborough Indoor Pool.

The program provides students with an important opportunity to develop their swimming ability, water confidence and safety skills in a supportive environment. During the first session, qualified AustSwim instructors assessed each student’s swimming ability before grouping students according to their current level, allowing them to work on skills appropriate to their stage of development.

It has been fantastic to see our youngest students getting into the pool, challenging themselves and becoming more confident with each session. Students have also been developing their independence by managing their swimming equipment and getting changed before and after their lessons.

With two sessions remaining, our Junior Swimming Program will continue on Friday 28 August and Friday 4 September. We look forward to seeing our students continue to build their skills and confidence in the water.

Girls Take the Court: Basketball Comes to Trafalgar

Grade 3-6 girls had the opportunity to take part in a Basketball Victoria clinic at Trafalgar Primary School on Thursday 13 August.

The girls-only clinic provided students with an opportunity to develop their basketball skills through a range of fun, game-based activities led by Basketball Victoria coaches. Students worked on fundamental skills including ball handling, passing, shooting and movement, while putting these skills into practice through modified games and activities.

The clinic was designed to be accessible to girls of all abilities, providing an opportunity for experienced players to further develop their skills while also encouraging students who are new to basketball to give the sport a try.

It was fantastic to see so many of our Grade 3-6 girls getting involved, challenging themselves and enjoying their time on the court. A big thank you to Basketball Victoria for bringing this program to our school and helping to create more opportunities for girls to get involved in basketball.

🎶 Making Music at TPS

Festival on the Lawn 2026 - Friday 4th December

The date is set and planning is officially underway for our 2026 Festival on the Lawn!

Vendors are being booked for the big day, and all grades will soon be choosing their songs and getting started with rehearsals during Music classes.

There’s plenty to look forward to, and we can’t wait to see our students take to the stage and showcase their musical talents! 🎤🎸🎶

Trafalgar Community Carols 

The Trafalgar Community Carols will be held in early December, with the TPS Choir excited to be performing!

🎶 Choir rehearsals are held during the second half of lunch on Thursdays.

No experience is necessary, and there is no cost to join. We’d love to welcome more regular attendees to the choir!

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be deciding which songs the choir will perform at the Community Carols, so now is a great time to join us and be part of the fun!

🎵 TPS Instrumental Music Program – Term 4

The TPS Instrumental Music Program gives students the fantastic opportunity to learn and play a musical instrument of their choice with guidance from an experienced and professional instrumental teacher.

If your child would like to join the program in Term 4, we currently have vacancies with all four of our instrumental teachers!

To get started, simply pick up an enrolment form from outside the Music Room or the Front Office and return it to the school. We’ll then match your child with an instrumental teacher and arrange their one-on-one music lessons.

It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to develop their musical skills, confidence and enjoyment of music! 🎶

🎶 Bell Music Song Competition – Staff Choice!

The competition has been heating up, with students and staff voting each week to decide which songs would progress to the next round. Starting with 16 songs, the competition has now reached its exciting conclusion!

This year’s theme was Staff Choice, with all of the competing songs played as our bell music. As each song was eliminated, it was removed from the bell music playlist.

The grand final saw Titanium, chosen by Miss Ross, take on Livin’ on a Prayer, chosen by Miss Sneddon.

The winner was announced by our Performing Arts Captains at this week’s assembly…

🥁 And the winner is… LIVIN’ ON A PRAYER! 🎉🎶

Congratulations to Miss Sneddon and all the students and staff who took part in this year’s competition!
