Feast of the Assumption – 15th of August
On Sunday, we celebrated the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (August 15th). On this special feast day, Catholics remember and honour Mary being taken into heaven, body and soul, at the end of her earthly life. Mary’s faith, courage and loving “yes” to God continue to inspire us to trust in God and follow His call in our own lives particularly as our patron saint at St. Mary’s. Mary’s life and example of devoted faith and love, continues to be a reminder of how we can do this in our own lives today with Mary as our model and guide.
Laudato Si Session with Sarah Page from DOBCEL:
Last Monday, the Grade 5/6s had a visit from Sarah Page who is on the Catholic Mission and Identity Team at DOBCEL Ballarat. One of Sarah’s main roles, is assisting schools with their Laudato Si Action plans. Sarah led our students through Pope Francis’ Laudato Si Encyclical, and the call he made for us all to take action to protect our common home; earth. In class groups during the day, she outlined the goals that Pope Francis included in his encyclical including ‘Response to the Cry of the Earth’, ‘Response to the Cry of the poor’, ‘Ecological Economics’, ‘Adoption of Sustainable Lifestyles’, ‘Ecological Education’, ‘Ecological Spirituality’ and ‘Community Resilience and Empowerment’. She then led the whole 5/6 group through an audit of the school in each of these areas. The next step in the action plan would be to make a goal for the school that would connect to Laudato Si.
