Advent:  A time of  Hope

God of Love,

Your Son Jesus is your greatest gift to us.

He shows us the depth of your love and faithfulness.

Help us to walk in his light each day.

Strengthen our faith as we wait in hope.

 

Guide our hearts to kindness and peace.

May our school be filled with love, faith, and hope this Advent.

 

We pray in the name of Jesus, our Savior.

The Season of Advent

Advent is the start of the Liturgical calendar year in the Catholic faith.  This year, it begins on Sunday 30 November.

The word Advent comes from the Latin 'adventus,' which means 'coming' or 'arrival' to signify the birth of Jesus. Students will explore how Advent is a time for celebration; anticipating Christ's birth and looking forward to when Jesus will come again.

Each week we are asked to reflect on a different theme as we prepare ourselves for the arrival of Jesus.

Week 1: Hope: We wait in hope for the second coming of Jesus.

What do you hope for?  What do you hope for others?

Week 2: Love: We remember how God loves us.

How can we show love to others in our life?

Week 3: Joy: We experience joy in the story of the ‘Birth of Jesus’. 

How can we spread joy to others, especially those in need?

Week 4: Peace: We pray for peace in our world. 

How can we be peacemakers at school, at home and in our community?

Year 5/6  Mini Vinnies 'Christmas Appeal'

This term we are promoting a Mini Vinnies ‘Christmas Appeal’ to support  families that might not be able to afford presents or gifts for their children or families. These gifts will be distributed by the Salvation Army to families in the community to bring some happiness and cheer.

We would like every student to bring in a small  unwrapped gift for someone your own age by Monday 8th December. Please give it to your classroom teacher. 

On Monday 8th December, we will run a fun afternoon games session and your gift will be your ‘entry ticket’!
