Music Learning Area News – Welcome To 2026

We are getting back into the swing of things in our Instrumental Music Program! Lessons commenced for students in Years 8 -12 last week, and a majority of our Ensembles have recommenced rehearsals this week. Next week, the Rock Ensemble will commence rehearsing on Monday, and will be directed by Mr Rex. If this ensemble is appearing on your Compass schedule, please come to M02 at lunchtime on Monday.

A reminder to contact your Instrumental Teacher or Ensemble Director if you are unable to make a lesson or rehearsal.

Year 7 Music Instrument Trials

All Year 7 Music students had the opportunity to trial the range of Instruments we teach at Wheelers Hill on Tuesday February 3rd. We often find that students are drawn to a particular instrument that they would never have considered learning if they didn’t have the chance to try it out in person.

If you are still interested in learning an instrument, but have not submitted the enrolment form, please do so as soon as possible. Lessons for Year 7’s will commence from Monday February 23rd.

Year 7 Instrumental Music Information Session

We are holding an Instrumental Music Information Session on Wednesday February 18th at 4:30pm in the Learning and Wellbeing Centre. This will be immediately following the Meet and Greet event for Year 7 families. At Wheelers Hill we offer lessons in the following instruments: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Percussion, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Voice and Keyboard.

We encourage all students who have enrolled in Instrumental lessons to come along with their parents to find out more about the music program, and meet some of our instrumental staff. As all students in the Year 7 RISE class will be learning an instrument, we strongly encourage families with students in this class to attend this event. All students who learn Brass and Woodwind, and selected Percussion students in Year 7 will be a member of the Beginner Concert Band, which will start rehearsing from Tuesday February 28th at 8am in M01.
