Prep Animal Land Excursion

What an exciting start to our new Sharing the Planet inquiry! In Week 1, our Prep students visited Animal Land for a day of hands-on learning. We observed living things, asked questions and made connections with the world around us.

We milked Ellie the Jersey cow, churned cream to make butter and enjoyed tasting it at lunchtime. We met baby rabbits and guinea pigs, took a tractor ride to feed farm animals, and enjoyed pony rides. We also explored how farmers care for animals and investigated pond life through pond scooping.

Back at school, the students have been sharing their ideas and asking “I wonder…” questions about the animals and environments they explored. These experiences have sparked our curiosity and we will use this to think about our central idea: Living things have different needs to survive and grow.

Through this experience, our young inquirers are developing their observation, questioning and thinking skills as they learn more about the living world around them.

Year 3 Excursion to Melbourne Museum

Our Year 3 students were very excited to visit the Melbourne Museum on Friday 16 October! As part of our 'Where We Are in Place and Time' unit, we had the wonderful opportunity to deepen our learning about First Nations Peoples, cultures and histories. We also enjoyed a forest walk, discovered fascinating creatures in the animal exhibits and travelled back in time as we explored the incredible dinosaur displays! It was a day filled with curiosity, discovery and hands-on learning. What a wonderful way to bring our inquiry to life!

Year 5 Healthy Happy Minds Incursion

On Tuesday 6 October, our Year 5 students participated in an engaging and enjoyable ‘Healthy Minds’ incursion, run by Supreme Incursions. The session provided students with opportunities to explore a range of strategies to help recognise, understand and regulate their emotions.

Through fun and interactive activities, students were encouraged to try different techniques and reflect on which strategies worked best for them. It was wonderful to see the students actively participating, sharing their ideas and developing a greater understanding of how they can manage their emotions in ways that support their wellbeing and learning.

Primary Years World Cup Soccer Tournament

Our Year 3–6 students took to the pitch last Wednesday for our Primary Years World Cup Soccer Tournament! After five weeks of lunchtime training with Mr Wilkie, students were ready to put their skills into action. Year 3–4 and Year 5–6 competed in separate tournaments, with mixed-year teams placed into groups to battle it out on the ladder before progressing to the semi-finals and grand finals. In the Year 3–4 grand final, Brazil defeated England 2–0, while Spain claimed a 1–0 victory over the Netherlands in the Year 5–6 final.

Well done to all our students for their teamwork, sportsmanship and efforts throughout the tournament, and thank you to Mr Wilkie for helping prepare our players!

Year 6 PYP Exhibition

This year, our Year 6 students explored the transdisciplinary theme Sharing the Planet through the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Students investigated issues they were passionate about, developed their own central ideas and lines of inquiry, and explored the impact of these issues on people, communities and the planet. The Exhibition community evening launched with a moving performance, followed by passionate students sharing their learning and speaking about the issues that matter to them.

Many students chose to take action by advocating for people in need and encouraging others to support the rebuilding of communities in Nepal following devastating floods. Through research, collaboration, advocacy and action, our students demonstrated the power of young people to use their learning to create positive change.

R U OK? Week

At the end of last term, our staff and students came together to build connection, start conversations and spread a little positivity across our College. Today, our school community wore a touch of yellow as a visible reminder to ask, “Are you OK?”

Our students enjoyed a range of activities throughout the week, including drawing chalk murals of hope, playing lawn games, watching a lunchtime concert, making bracelets and badges, and stepping aboard the Wyndham Youth Street Surfer Bus to play video games. On Thursday morning, our staff were treated to free coffees and sweet treats, thanks to our Wellbeing Team.
