Physical Education
This term, our P–2 students have been developing their kicking skills in Physical Education. They learned the key cues of "Look, Step, Kick" and practised kicking with their laces before progressing to using the inside of their foot, just like soccer players. To conclude the five-week unit, students showcased their skills in a fun game of sideline soccer with Ms Oliver.
The P–2 students have now moved on to gymnastics, which is always a favourite, especially during the cooler winter months. Through a variety of activities, students are learning to control their bodies and explore the elements of movement, including balance, shape, and coordination.
In Years 3–6, students have been learning the skills and strategies involved in court invasion sports. They have been developing their ability to clear and drive the ball, create space, and work together to move the ball effectively down the court.
Our Year 5/6 students have also been taking on leadership responsibilities through a SEPEP (Sport Education in Physical Education Program) unit, where they are organising and running their own sporting competition. This has provided valuable opportunities to develop teamwork, communication, and leadership skills.
Next term, students across the school will be focusing on Athletics, where they will develop their running, jumping, and throwing skills in preparation for our athletics events.
Science
This term, students in Years 3–6 have been exploring the exciting world of Physical Sciences.
Our Year 3–4 students investigated forces and discovered how they help objects move. They learned about contact forces, including pushes, pulls, friction, air resistance and water resistance. Students then explored non-contact forces, such as gravity, magnetism and static electricity, and conducted investigations to see these forces in action.
Year 5–6 students focused on electrical circuits. They explored the difference between open and closed circuits, investigated how electricity travels through a circuit, and learned about the important role of conductors and insulators.
Clubs
So far this term the students have complete 2 out of the 4 weeks of clubs. The students have been loving the different clubs they have chosen. It has been a great chance to work with students from other classes and participate in activities that they might not get the opportunity to partake in.
We have spoken to some students about what they have got up to and enjoyed so far in their club for this term, here is what they have to say!
Cooking –
In cooking we have been working in groups of 3 to cook and have made fried rice and rocky road. It’s been fun to cook with our friends but challenging deciding which ingredients to put in. The best part is being able to cook different foods and of course eating the food at the end.
Crocheting –
We have been learning different stitches to help get the hang of crocheting to make different things. It has been nice and calming. We have also done some finger knitting and some of us have made a bracelet.
3D printing –
It’s been cool to make things and it will be exciting to see them come to life when they are printed. You get to create whatever you want and see it in real life.
Craft –
It has been fun doing some craft activities with our friends. It’s been great to be hands on and using our creative skills to create different things.
Netball –
We get to play lots of games. I am learning how to play netball better. We get to play real netball.
Cricket –
Cricket has been so much fun! We have been working with a partner to do the different drills like throwing at the stumps and practising our skills. Its been great because everyone gets a fair go at everything and we have learnt some new things.
Gymnastics –
I get to jump on the trampoline and get to play with all different people. It is so much fun!
Online geometry activities –
It’s been lots of fun playing the different activities to learn about geometry!
