Welcome back to Term Three

I hope all our E.L.C and Junior School families enjoyed a restful and refreshing holiday break and found opportunities to spend quality time together. Whether your holidays were filled with adventure or simply a slower pace, I trust everyone returns feeling recharged and ready for an exciting term ahead. 

Term Three is always one of the most rewarding terms of the school year at Myrniong. With settled routines, growing confidence, and a strong sense of belonging, students and staff are well placed to embrace new challenges, deepen their learning, and continue to flourish both inside and outside the classroom. As always, I encourage our students to approach this term with curiosity, kindness, and courage. Great learning begins with a willingness to ask questions, embrace challenges, make mistakes, and support others along the way. 

A very warm welcome to three new students and families joining our learning community this term. Ariana Nguyen joins our Year 1 class, Chilli Thomas our Year 5 class and Delilah Brennan our Year 6 class. I look forward to seeing the many successes, milestones and memorable moments that will undoubtedly unfold throughout the next nine weeks. Thank you for your continued partnership, and I wish every family a happy, healthy, and rewarding Term Three.

2026 NAPLAN Results

This Friday, Year 3 and 5 parents will have received their children’s 2026 NAPLAN results. Student achievement in NAPLAN is reported using proficiency standards for each assessment area at each year level. The standards are set at a challenging but reasonable expectation of what students know and can do at the time of testing. There are 4 proficiency levels: 

• Exceeding: the student’s result exceeds expectations at the time of testing. 

• Strong: the student’s result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing. 

• Developing: the student’s result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing.

• Needs additional support: the student’s result indicates that they are not achieving the learning outcomes that are expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.

   

Reading the NAPLAN individual student report 

• The front page of the student report provides general information about the tests and an explanation of how to read the report.

• The second and third pages show the student’s result in each assessment area. The results are classified into one of 4 proficiency levels, as above.

• The report shows the student’s achievement against the national average for their year (shown as a black triangle) and the range of achievement for the middle 60% of students in their year level (shown as a light shaded rectangle). Reports in some states and territories also show the school average.

• The final page of the report provides a brief summary of the skills typically demonstrated by students at each proficiency level.

Dare to Dream

With the Senior Campus production of ‘Chicago: Teen Edition’ upon us in a couple of weeks, we are well and truly into musical season at College. 

Excitement is building for our ‘Dare to Dream’ cast. This Term, the following Wednesday afternoon rehearsals will take place at the Senior Campus, from 3.30pm to 5.00pm. Cast can catch the afternoon Mortlake Bus to Senior Campus.

Captain's Corner

Anika - What I loved about my school holiday break was spending time with family in New South Wales, in Jindabyne and Tea Gardens, and enjoying the time together. 

Thomas - In the holidays, I enjoyed travelling to Melbourne and taking care of my 4-year-old and 6-month-old cousins. I also loved exploring Melbourne.

Last weekend’s results:

Under 10 College Knights went down 5-0 to Coleraine Maroon.

Under 13 College Warriors were 3-0 winners over Demons Red.

Under 13 College Chiefs were defeated 10-2 by Coleraine Gold.

Under 10 College Knights v Demons Red at 12.00 pm - Pedrina Park.

Under 10 College Vikings v Coleraine Gold at 12.00 pm - Pedrina Park.

Under 13 College Chiefs v Dunkeld at 2.00 pm - College.

Congratulations to Junior School students Maggie Wallis, Tilly Cameron, Hazel Johns, and Sammie Price who represented the southwest of Victoria at the State Hockey Championships in the school holidays. The Under 12 South West Eagles finished 5th in the Division 2 Competition.
