News of the Week

Dear Parents and Friends,
Welcome to the last newsletter of the term! This term, the students have enjoyed many exciting and fun-filled experiences. This week marked the final week of interschool sport for our Year 5/6 students. However, some of our teams are waiting for results to be finalised to see if they make the Divison Finals. Miss Richards has also been working hard preparing for Athletics Day, which will take place next term. In Year 5/6, we have been studying the novel Free Diving and learning about Australian history. Don't forget that Grandparents' Day will be held on 24th July. We look forward to welcoming our grandparents and special visitors to our school community. We wish everyone a safe, happy, and relaxing holiday break!
Welcome to our New Students
This week we are very excited to welcome 3 new students to St Brigid’s.
We welcome:
Coco in Foundation
Dominic in Year 2 and
Matthew in Year 3.
Our children have made them all feel very welcome and they have settled in so beautifully. We wish you all the very best on your learning journey here at St Brigid’s.
Interschool Sports
This term, we participated in Winter School Sports, and it has been heaps of fun! Students competed in football, soccer, and netball, and all teams performed exceptionally well. We are proud to share that all teams achieved strong results at the district level. Leader positions are not finak as some schools still have a match to play. Once these positions have been finalised we will share them with you. We are incredibly proud of everyone's efforts, sportsmanship, and teamwork throughout the season. Most importantly, we hope all students had lots of fun representing our school.
Athletics Day
For the last 3 weeks in PE, we have been training for the upcoming athletics carnival. The events for the 3-6 levels will be hurdles, 100m sprint, 200m sprint, shot put, discus, long jump and an 800m sprint. For Foundation to Year 2, they will do a 100m sprint, shot put, long jump and vortex, but instead of discus and hurdles they will do another sprint. They will also compete in games like tunnel ball, but these will not be for house points. Our whole school Athletics Carinval will be held on Wednesday 5 August at Dolomore Oval in Mentone. We will need lots of parent helpers! We hope to see you there.
After School Sport
We are so very lucky to have Synergise Sport offering an after school sport activity program for interested children. If you would like to join Synergise for this amazing experience please see the brochure in the Community News.
Novel Study 'Free Diving'
This term in Year 5/6, we completed a novel study on the book Free Diving by Lorrae Coffin. Throughout the unit, we learned about the experiences of First Nations pearl divers who were taken by force from their homes and communities. Many of these divers had no experience swimming and were not paid for their work. The novel helped us develop our understanding of an important part of Australian history and encouraged us to think about fairness, resilience, and the experiences of First Nations peoples.
Buddies
It was lovely to finish the term with our Buddies. We all enjoyed a library visit together. Here are some pictures of the fun we had.
Diary Competition
Don't forget - it's not too late to enter our 2027 Diary Competition. The entries are coming in. The last day to enter is Monday 13 July, so get colouring and designing over the holidays!
This brings us to the end of another great term! We have had lots of fun learning new things and participating in exciting activities. We hope everyone enjoys the holidays and has a chance to relax and spend time with family and friends.
We can't wait to see everyone back next term. Have a safe and happy holiday!

Parent Social Night
Wow! What an amazing night our parents had last Friday night! The music was blasting, the dancing was amazing and the silent auctions and raffles were very well received!!
Giselle and her merry band of helpers did an amazing job transforming the room into a Studio 54 and the grazing table was delicious.
A very big thank you to Giselle who did an oustanding job pulling the whole social night together. Giselle couldn't have done it without her amazing team - Gilian, Zoe, Sinaed, Sheena, Rebecca, Megan, Dilmi and Clare - thank you all for making the night so successful! Thank you to Brad for getting everyone on the dance floor. Your DJ skills were elite! Thank you also to our two fabulous bartenders - Sharon and Georgia!
Congratulations to Susy (Michael Year 3) and Alice and Theo (William FE) who won the 2 x $500 vouchers for the school fees!
Thank you to all the parents who attended and made the night such a fun night of laughter, chatting and meeting new friends!
We have one prize still awaiting collection for Jamie McMahon. If you could contact the office that would be greatly appreciated.
As at close of business today the event has raised an amazing $4,800.00!! What an incredible effort.
Foundation 2027
This week I have had the absolute pleasure of meeting our 2027 Foundation students. My room is again like an art gallery with the lovely pictures they have drawn for me. They are all very excited to come to school next year - some even want to start now! We cannot wait for them to begin their journey with us! Storytime is scheduled for next term.
