Library Bags

Each child needs a library bag for their library lesson with their name marked on their bag. It’s important that all students (K-6) have a library bag as they protect books in their school bag from being damaged and any accidental spills. We love to see homemade bags, store bought bags, or even plastic bags; anything that protects books is great!

This year, St Philomena's will be celebrating the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book Week from Monday 24th August - Friday 28th August (Term 3, Week 6).

The Book Week Parade will be held in the school hall at 9.15am Friday 29th August.

Students are encouraged to dress up as a book character or use this year's theme of ‘Symphony of Stories’.  There are many websites with great ideas.  Each grade will parade their costumes while the judges try very hard to choose a winner!

Remember, judges will be using the following criteria:

  • Is the costume accompanied with the book (or a photocopy of the book cover)?
  • Is the costume from a book?
  • Creativity – Was the costume made creatively, colourfully, and does it show personality?
  • Originality – Does the costume stand out from the rest?
  • Effort – Did the costume take time and effort?
  • Authenticity – How accurate and thorough is the costume?

Here are some websites to check out for easy-ish costumes!
