Principal's Report

Simone Roy

MYLNS

Middle Years Literacy and Numeracy Support

The government has continued to support students at Year 10 who are identified through their NAPLAN results as needing some extra support in their learning this year. Jarrah Brennan and Shantelle Stimson were our staff assisting in Year 10 classes with Literacy and Numeracy support, however, with Shantelle taking on the Acting Assistant Principal role she no longer has the ability to continue with MYLNS, so Belinda Cunningham will be stepping into this role for the remainder of the year.

Progress Reports

Mid Term 3 Progress Reports will be available in Compass this today. These reports are always completed in Weeks 4 and 8 of each term and help to monitor the students’ learning habits in class. All students should be able to achieve working at a level of 3, the expected level. If you have any concerns or questions about these reports, please contact the class teacher or Student Engagement Leader.

Progress Reports - Year 7/8 and 9/10 Sport are now being assessed

Year 7/8 Sport and Year 9/10 Sport will now be assessed, using the same Progress Report matrix and 0–4 grading scale as all other subjects.

For Sport, the criteria are applied to students’ participation and behaviour during the practical classes. For example:

  • Readiness to Learn: To receive a 4, students need to arrive on time, in the correct sports uniform and with the required equipment for every lesson. A student who forgets their uniform once would generally receive a 3.
  • Learning Mindset: Students are assessed on how well they seek, accept and apply feedback from teachers, coaches and peers.
  • Work Habits: Students are assessed on their participation, effort and willingness to practise and improve their skills.
  • Values: Students are assessed on respect, kindness, confidence, sportsmanship, and their contribution to a positive sporting environment.

A 0 result – Yet to Attempt is used when a student is present but has not attempted or engaged in the learning. If a student has attended less than 25% of Sport classes, they will receive N/A, regardless of the reason for their absence.

The purpose of adding these subjects into the Progress Reports cycle is to provide students and families with regular feedback about their child’s approach to learning and participation in Sport.

Term 3 Conferences (formerly Parent Teacher interviews)
