Grade 5 & 6 

What a busy and rewarding Term 3 it has been in the Grade 5/6 Learning Community! Our students have worked incredibly hard across all areas of their learning and should be very proud of their achievements.

In Numeracy, students have developed their understanding of time, decimals, percentages, division and fractions. We have focused on applying these skills to a range of real-life and problem-solving situations, with students becoming increasingly confident in explaining their mathematical thinking and choosing appropriate strategies to solve problems. Also the children have loved the challenge of Times tables rockstars and we have seen great growth in their multiplication facts. 

Our Literacy learning has been particularly exciting this term. We read the book Rivert Boy and explored different ways authors communicate their ideas. Students also did some amazing work in their Writer’s Notebooks, experimenting with different text types linked to their own interests. It has been fantastic to see students take greater ownership of their writing and develop their own creative voices.

A major highlight of the term was our Grade 5 camp at Sovereign Hill. Students had a fantastic time stepping back into the 1850s and experiencing life during the Victorian Gold Rush. From gold panning and mine tours to candle and lolly making, students had the opportunity to bring their History learning to life. 

Overall, it has been a fantastic Term 3, filled with learning, creativity, challenges and plenty of memorable experiences. We are extremely proud of the effort and enthusiasm shown by our Grade 5/6 students and look forward to an exciting Term 4!
