Science

This week in Science class we explored the Digestive and Circulatory body systems as part of our term one topic, The Amazing Human Body. Students explored what these systems are comprised of, how they work and how they aid our survival.
Grade 5/6 students - Nutrient Relay: showing the movement of nutrients
from the mouth all the way to the blood stream!
We engaged in interesting investigations using simple materials to demonstrate the organs and processes involved in each system. We also discovered how these two systems work together, with the circulatory system transporting the nutrients from the digestive system around our body via our blood.
Our model digestive system - it was fun investigating the journey
of food and the movement of nutrients inside the body!
Students then reflected upon their learning by illustrating and sharing what they learnt. Some great observations and understandings from our Foundation to Grade Six students – well done to our St Mary’s scientists!
Next session we will explore the nervous system and respiratory system.
Term Topics:
Term 1 – Biology: Amazing Human Bodies
Term 2 – Physics: Forces, Energy & Motion
Term 3 – Earth & Space Science: Our Dynamic Earth and Space
