QGSSSA Wrap-Up

Last week, the Senior School had the opportunity to compete in the QGSSSA Swimming Competition at the Sleeman Sports Complex. The College had an impressive turnout of both swimmers and spectators, and we are grateful to all who attended and showed their support. Clayfield College placed 9th in the Mollie Gould Aggregate Championship and 6th in the Sheena Dyason Percentage Cup which is an impressive achievement against some of Brisbane’s elite sporting schools.

A special mention to Koko Woolnough, Demi de Tournouer, Evelyn Wells, Riley Taylor, Amelia Dash, Mackenzie Goodbody and Chloe Philips for their outstanding determination and team spirit shown throughout the QG swim season and on the night. Also, a big shout out to Sienna Grice on her fantastic 3rd place in the 13 years 50m backstroke. Coco Kawasaki raced an incredible 50m freestyle, placing 1st in the 15 years age group and stepped up in the opens 200m freestyle. Fabienne Gri also stepped up in the opens 100m backstroke and achieved a respectable 3rd place in the 14 years 50m backstroke.

We’d like to acknowledge the sports captains Hayley and Reese who went above and beyond, setting the standard to keep the team motivated, organised and full of energy throughout the evening.  A massive thank you goes to the Croc Squad and all of the spectators, who cheered on the Clayfield swimmers. It made a huge difference, and it created a fun atmosphere for the girls.

Britton Shield Wrap-Up

Our Britton Shield swimmers made us incredibly proud on 26 February as they took on the strength of Brisbane Boys' College (BBC) and Ipswich Junior Grammar. Finishing second to the host school (BBC) was a fantastic achievement, especially with so many exceptional performances throughout the day. Some of our students in the older year levels pushed themselves to the limit by swimming over 13 races and still brought great energy to every event.

The spirit across the team was inspiring with nonstop cheering and even a spirit filled tunnel to welcome swimmers into the final 4 x 50 relay championship. Our enthusiasm was so contagious that other schools decided to make one, too!

Our coaches Daniel and Cooper showed wonderful commitment and Ms Cattanach supported the team with great care and encouragement. A big thank you also goes to Miss Lewin for her organisation and to Mrs Skerrett, Mr O’Rourke and Mrs Coote for being there to support us on the day. Well done to all our swimmers for representing our school with pride, effort and an unbeatable team spirit!

Andrews Cup Wrap-Up

On Monday 9 March, Clayfield students gave everything they had at the Andrews Cup swimming event at Chandler. The atmosphere was full of excitement with swimmers trying their best, cheering loudly for their teammates and showing amazing school spirit. We were thrilled to win the Percentage Cup for the eleventh year in a row, a brilliant reflection of the effort and commitment shown across the entire team. Our second-place finish in the Springfield Cup relay was another highlight and finishing sixth overall rounded out a day of strong, consistent performances.
