Deputy Principal / Religious Education

Dear Parents and Families

As we come to the end of Term One, I reflect back over the first nine weeks of the school year with gratitude for the efforts of many within our community.  Thank you to the many parents who have helped whether that be serving pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, attending our opening mass, attending our Youth Mass, working on the Bunnings BBQ, St Patrick’s Day, Cross Country, Harmony Day liturgy and assemblies.  I applaud the efforts of so many contributing to creating and maintaining St Luke’s as a wonderful learning environment for the children in our care.  Thank you also to our children for embracing the many new learning opportunities offered here daily to further develop knowledge, understanding and skills across a range of learning areas, interests and the ongoing spiritual development as a person.

This year, Easter is celebrated at the end of the holidays and our focus next week will be on Holy Week and the events of the first Easter over two thousand years ago. Students will be celebrating and learning about the significance of Holy Week and how we have prepared ourselves throughout Lent.   At the beginning of Term Two we will celebrate the joy and mystery of the Resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday.    Please take the time to attend any of the parish Holy Week and Easter celebrations during the holidays.   Please refer to the attached Parish Bulletin for details.

We pray for our children who will make the sacrament of Reconciliation this coming weekend.  As our parish-based Sacramental Program prepares students for the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist and Reconciliation, we are reminded of our own rites of passage, of journey, of preparation and faith. The Lenten season has provided our Catholic and Christian families opportunity to pray, to give alms and, to fast as we have celebrated Holy Week and look forward to the Easter mystery in the coming weeks.  Our Muslim families are now well into the season of Ramadan, similarly praying, fasting, reflecting and community gathering. Members of our Indian community will soon celebrate ‘Holi’ the Hindhu Festival of Colours.  It’s a wonderful time of the year.

I wish everyone a peaceful and happy Easter.

Project Compassion Prayer

We give thanks for all the people who fill our lives with love. We pray for all those who do not feel loved, especially those yet to appreciate the depth of God’s love. May our support for Project Compassion be a sign to others of the love of God for all people. Amen.
