Sacrament of Eucharist Congratulations & Photo Request

We congratulate all the children from Holy Trinity that received their First Eucharist at St Jude’s Church on 3 May.

The Eucharist is one of the three Sacraments of Initiation, important steps in the journey to becoming a full member of the Catholic Church (Baptism and Confirmation are the other two). During the Sacrament of the Eucharist, the students received the Blessed Host for the first time. Fr Jerald blessed the bread and wine, reminding us of when Jesus shared the Last Supper with his disciples.

We sincerely thank Fr Jerald & Fr Libeesh for celebrating this important Sacrament. We also extend our gratitude to the families and staff for their support throughout the children’s Sacramental journey.

While many students were naturally nervous about receiving the Host for the first time, they were happy and relieved once the ceremony was completed. It was wonderful to have families and school staff supporting them on such a significant occasion in their faith journey. Afterwards, many families held celebrations to recognise this special milestone. We trust the children had a wonderful day.

If families took a photo of their child, a family photo, or a group photo, we would greatly appreciate an electronic copy for our school newsletter and archives. Please send photos to my email address: (dharvie@htws.catholic.edu.au ).

2025 Jubilee (Pilgrims of Hope)

What is the 2025 Jubilee?

The term “Jubilee” comes from the Hebrew term “yobel,” which means “ram’s horn.” In Jewish tradition, the sound of the horn marked the beginning of a particular year of remission and forgiveness. The Catholic Church adopted this tradition and made it a year of pilgrimage, prayer, and reconciliation.

What is the History of the Jubilee?

The first Jubilee of the Catholic Church was proclaimed by Pope Boniface VIII in 1300. Since then, the Church has celebrated a Jubilee every 25 years unless the Pope decides to call an extraordinary Jubilee, as Pope Francis did in 2015.

Why is 2025 a Holy Year for the Catholic Church?

The official Vatican website for the Holy Year 2025 — www.iubilaeum2025.va — says, “In 1300, Pope Boniface VIII called the first Jubilee, also known as a ‘Holy Year,’ since it is a time when God’s holiness transforms us.” The Jubilee is a time of forgiveness and reconciliation, with pilgrims worldwide flocking to Rome to celebrate the event. It is also a time of renewal and spiritual awakening, with the Pope and other religious leaders offering prayers, blessings, and ceremonies.
