DRAWING CLUB

During Drawing Club, students explored Bullying No Way Week 2026 and this year’s theme, “Small Acts, Big Impact.” We discussed what bullying is, what students can do if they are being bullied, and how they can safely support someone else who may be experiencing unkind behaviour.

Students reflected on how even small actions, such as including someone, using kind words, speaking up or helping a friend, can make a big difference. We also talked about the important reminder, “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say it at all.”

Through our Drawing Club activity, students created positive messages about kindness, respect, inclusion and belonging, reminding us that everyone has a role to play in making our school a safe and welcoming place. Small acts really can have a big impact! 🎨💜

PREP

In Prep, students explored painting techniques while completing their Neither Imaginary Creature artwork. They revised primary and secondary colours, created tints by mixing white with colours, and explored contrasting colours to enhance their designs. Students learnt how to use the wax resist technique by painting poster paint over oil pastel and experimented with the dry-brush technique to create soft, textured skies. They carefully painted their backgrounds and creatures using similar colours to create a sense of unity, applying smooth brush strokes and thoughtful colour choices. Students proudly shared their finished artworks during a gallery walk, discussing the colours and painting techniques they had used while appreciating the creativity of their classmates.

YEAR 2

In Year 2, students explored the colourful artworks of Australian artist Wayne Thiebaud while creating a mixed media Gumball Machine. They developed their drawing skills by using line, shape and space to create a large, detailed gumball machine. Students then applied their knowledge of primary, secondary and fluorescent colours, using smooth brush strokes to paint their artwork. They experimented with colour mixing to create secondary colours and designed patterned backgrounds using horizontal and diagonal lines inspired by Wayne Thiebaud’s style. To complete their artwork, students explored collage techniques by cutting out and assembling their gumball machines, adding patterned papers to create texture, balance and visual interest. Throughout the unit, students reflected on their creative choices, practised self-assessment and developed confidence using a range of drawing, painting and mixed media techniques.

YEAR 4

In Year 4, students explored the fascinating world of Ancient Greek mythology through the story of Pegasus, the mythical winged horse. They learnt about Pegasus and discovered interesting facts about his role in Greek mythology before creating their own colourful artworks inspired by this legendary creature. Students developed their drawing skills by using line, pattern, shape and balance to create a large Pegasus with symmetrical wings, exploring feather textures through a variety of lines. They then applied bright watercolours using smooth brush strokes and created a striking starry background using the splatter painting technique. To complete their artwork, students carefully assembled their Pegasus by cutting, arranging and gluing the different elements together, adding glitter to enhance their final composition. Throughout the unit, students strengthened their drawing, painting and collage skills while reflecting on their creative choices and learning about the art and stories of Ancient Greece.
