Principal's Update

Principals’ Report

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone.

Welcome back to our community to a brand-new year. We have had a fantastic start to the new year. I would also like to welcome new staff:

  • Geoff Williams – Middle School Assistant
  • Kirsty Avery – Careers
  • Jacqui Wilkins (not new but now also our go to person in the library!)

Nicole Hobson is now the Senior School Assistant but is still currently assisting in Careers.

Melissa Neill is also the Principal on Wednesday’s.

Swimming Sports

A great day was had by all, staff, parents and students at the Swimming Sports this week. It was great to replace the memory of the storm with a day of awesome weather and excellent fun. We had 227 students attend, and nearly almost everyone got in the water, several staff getting in in their clothes! Congratulations to Mirboo House on winning the Sports and to everyone who participated. At assemblies, we continue to reiterate the message that life is all about participation and giving things a go – that is a life well lead. Never let you be put off doing something because of what others might think – live your best life!

School Wide Positive Behaviours Support

MNSC is official at SWPBs school, this means that we have agreed expectations around what positive behaviour looks like and that we teach students explicitly these expectations. Our key focuses this term for everyone is:

  • Be kind
  • Own it (if you make a mistake, be honest and own up)
  • Work hard
  • Keep on keeping on (be resilient and keep trying)

Voice of Students

This group of students have almost been selected for 2025. Last year, VOS ran major events each term which were an absolute highlight on the school calendar for every student. We look forward to seeing what they come up with this year – I have heard a little whisper that we might have an Easter Egg hunt, like our Christmas Gnome Hunt – for the community to enjoy. Let’s see what exciting things happen!

Strive to Serve Projects

Our Year 11/12 VCE/VM students are undertaking these projects. This is a fantastic way students give back to the community and it also lets them shine at things they are passionate or excited about.

Some of the projects underway this year are:

  • A writing competition
  • New basketball backboards and lines
  • Campus Cravings Café
  • Plant growing for our school and community
  • Doing jobs and helping teachers so that the environment in the classroom is the best it can be
  • Producing social media content for the school

Our Year 10 Life Ready class will also design some Strive to Serve Projects. We can’t wait to see what they come up with.

Lastly, currently our Inclusion Coordinator, Carolyne Boothman is away. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused. We are lucky to be able to have the continued support of Denita McMillan who has stepped out of her Departmental role to help us.

The Principal Team: Vaya Dauphin, Melissa Neill, and Nic Ryan.
