One of the most popular genres for our younger readers is fantasy where students can lose themselves in other worlds. Rick Riodan’s Percy Jackson series have an enduring magical quality that have become a ‘modern classic’. Although the series has been around since 2005 the themes and characters are strong but also show their flaws. Percy Jackson is a demigod and the son of Poseidon, the Greek God of the Sea. He has special powers like controlling water as well as being a loyal friend and a brave hero. Rick Riordan takes exciting myths of ancient Greece and makes them relatable to the modern world.
