Year 5 Kiah Thomas Virtual Author visit
Year 5 have been studying The Callers by Kiah Thomas this term. We were able to arrange a virtual author visit via Teams!
Here's what some of Year 5s thought of the incursion:
I learnt that all Kiah Thomas' books started with an idea. She goes through MANY drafts before publishing.
I enjoyed Kiah Thomas' author visit because she explained how she thinks of ideas, writes books and edits. She also explained that her stories come from accidents and incidents and she used her children's names for ideas for stories and places!
I learnt that Kiah Thomas gets her ideas for books from things she notices in the world such as when she was driving and she was really hungry and wished she had something to eat, then she wished she could make food appear out of thin air. But she thought, what if it didn't actually come from thin air but somewhere else.
It took a year to write a chapter book!
I learnt that is a big process to writing a book. I liked her ideas for her books, and I enjoyed knowing the idea for The Callers came from a banana.
I learnt that in different regions of the world, the same book can have different cover designs.
