Principal's Message

Term 2 Week 9 19 June 2026
From the Principal
Hi Everyone,
It has been another big and wonderful week. Some of you might be off to the Indooroopilly State High School UN Day celebrations this afternoon and this evening; it sounds like a fantastic event!
Our Strings, Band and Choirs were just fantastic at the Soirees. Thank you so much to everybody who managed to come along and support our very talented children. Thank you so much to Mrs Trudy Weekes, Mr. James Kukulies and Mrs Annemarie Kirsten who work passionately to lead our students to this level of success and enjoyment.
Next week on Wednesday our Chamber Strings are performing at the Regional Fanfare Competition. We are so excited for them and know that they will make our school so proud.
The Junior Athletics Carnival was so much fun yesterday! Our little ones really got into it and the Sport Captains did an excellent job of helping to corral and inspire them. Thank you so much to Mr Jorma Bushnell and all our staff who helped make this happen.
Speaking of Athletics, the results are in and we will be announcing the winners and the Age Champions when we would normally have assembly on Monday 22nd June at 2:10 PM. This will not be a regular assembly; it will be all about athletics! We might see you there. Also please check out our photo gallery because I have popped the photos in there from the Senior Athletics Carnival.
Speaking of sport, at assembly I was able to announce that I have had the Honour Board in the foyer updated which hasn't been done since 2016. There are a list of past students and current students’ names that are now on the Honour Boards. These Honour Boards are very historic piece, dating right back in our school’s history. To be placed on the Honour Board you must have represented our state or our nation. Congratulations to the following people who are current school students, Harvey Twinn, who represented our state in swimming and Harry Hawkins he represented our nation in futsal. We also still have siblings attending our school, of one of our past students who only graduated last year. Samara De Alwis is on there for her amazing achievements in athletics, so we were able to give shoutouts to her little brothers Aston and Zion. I assure you whilst I am in the principal’s chair, the board will stay updated from here on in. Congratulations again to these very deserving recipients.
Congratulations to all of our students who received a STAR Award on assembly this week. Yet again, I am overwhelmed listening to the summaries of why these children are getting these awards. We are enormously proud of how they choose to show up every day.
The Year 3 and 4 and the Year 5 and 6 Choirs did not disappoint at assembly and were simply angelic. Mrs Annemarie Kirsten must be served thrilled with how they're going. Congratulations to Mrs Kirsetn of course all of our beautiful singers in the choir.
At assembly, I was also able to announce, and give badges to, two very committed Legends of the Lost members, Rayan and Mohan, who turn up every day to help sort out lost property and return it to its rightful owners if possible. Please remember that it is not possible to return things if there is no name. It is really a great exercise for you to take the time to ensure your child's belongings are named, especially jumpers, hats, lunch boxes, water bottles but also, every part of their uniform and anything else that comes to school. Congratulations again to Rayan and Mohan.
Year 3 were able to enjoy an excursion this week to the Mount Coo-tha Botanical Gardens to support the learning that they've been doing this term. From all accounts it was a truly wonderful day out. Thank you to all students who were being great ambassadors for our school, as well as the Year 3 Team who organised this great experience for our children.
It is legislation that we must practise fire drills and lockdowns. It is important that our children and staff know what to do in case of an emergency. If your children come home talking about any of these things, please note that the types of events we talk about that could occur are things like a snake in the grounds or a storm coming. If you discuss these with your children, please stress the importance of simply staying calm and listening to staff when practices happen and remember, that the real events hardly ever happen.
Coming up next week we've got the STEM Parent Breakfast for those parents whose children have been accepted into the STEM Team. I'm excited to see how these teams go this year working together. Thank you so much to Mr Bryan Chow and Mrs Marianne Huxley who are leading these teams.
I'm hoping you can come to our Learning Celebrations next week. The timetable is here again for you to note. Remember if you cannot make it that is totally OK, there are plenty of us around to talk to your child about what they've been learning this term. Thank you to our teachers for providing these wonderful opportunities for families.
