Help fill a pantry – support our Food For Families Drive!

Murrumbeena Primary School is taking part in Uniting’s Food For Families, helping to provide food and essential items to individuals and families doing it tough. This is a great way for students to learn about kindness, social responsibility, and community support.

Murrumbeena Primary School is involved for the 19th year in the Food For Families Appeal. Our school community is very generous when it comes to helping out others in need. This is our opportunity to fill these boxes with non-perishable food and toiletries for families who need a helping hand at Christmas time!

Every classroom will have a donation box, and there will be some in the foyer of the school too. Take a look in your pantry for any in-date non-perishable food that you would like to donate to this year’s Food For Families Appeal. It’s a great way to clean out your pantry while helping others.

Please note – nothing that has expired or is out of date, please.

Next time you are doing your grocery shopping, you might want to pop a few extra toiletries into the basket. Take the kids along and get them to help choose things to donate to show that we look after our wider community too.

Why it matters?

Your contributions will help stock Uniting’s emergency relief pantries, ensuring that individuals and families receive the support they need to put a meal on the table when it’s needed most.

Collection Dates: Monday 17th November to Monday 8th December 2025
Drop-off Location: Student’s classrooms or at the Main Office

Suggested Non-Perishable Food Items

Tinned tuna, salmon, sardines and ham
Rice, couscous, long-life soft noodles
Pasta and pasta sauces
Tinned fruit and vegetables
UHT (long-life) milk
Two-minute noodles, instant noodles in a cup/bowl
Breakfast cereals
Baby food
Muesli bars and breakfast bars
Jars of Vegemite, honey, peanut butter, Nutella, jam
Tinned and ready-to-eat meals (e.g. spaghetti, baked beans, soup, curries, pastas, etc. – non-perishable)
Tomato sauce, vinegar, oil, soy sauce, etc.
Biscuits and crackers
Simmer sauces and quick meal packets
Teabags, instant coffee, Milo
Healthy snacks
