2019 Southern Regional High School Basketball Tournament

It was a busy weekend for the four St Mary’s College Senior Basketball Teams playing in the Southern Regional Tournament at Kingborough Sports Centre. 

In the Year 7-8 Division, our teams ended up playing each other in the Semi-Final after finishing 1st and 2nd in their respective pools. It was a very close game with both teams playing some great basketball and keeping the score within four points of each other until the fourth quarter. The St Mary’s 1 team pulled ahead with a couple of quick baskets sealing the win and securing their spot in the Grand Final against old rivals, Sacred Heart College. 

Thanks to great all-round teamwork and some handy defense, our St Mary’s 1 Year 7-8 team claimed the title, beating Sacred Heart College 34-15. Well done to coach Nicole Read and the following players on a great tournament. Best of luck in the state finals on 23 - 24 November in Launceston.

In the Year 9-10 Division 1 group, St Mary’s College and Sacred Heart College both finished on three wins and one loss, each heading into the Grand Final on Sunday afternoon. After a slow start by both teams, St Mary’s College managed to pull away in the fourth quarter to seal victory over Sacred Heart College, 27 to 18. 

Coach Ashley Banks and the girls will now travel up to Launceston for the State Finals, we wish them best of luck!

The Year 9-10 Division 2 team coached by Kylie Anderson came up against some tough opposition from Dominic College, MacKillop Catholic College, and Mt Carmel College to end the weekend in fourth position.
