NAPLAN

Each year students in Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in NAPLAN testing. This  is a national literacy and numeracy assessment used by schools to determine whole school areas of strength and identify areas for further improvement. Students participate in online testing in the areas of Reading, Writing, Spelling and Grammar (Language Conventions) and Mathematics.  It should be stressed that NAPLAN is just one aspect of our assessment and reporting process. It doesn’t replace ongoing assessments made by your child’s teacher, who is certainly best placed to give you an accurate picture of where your child’s strengths and areas of improvement are in their learning. While it provides useful information for our school as a whole, it is important to remember that these assessments give you an indication of how your child performed in one area, on one particular day. They do not represent a holistic picture of your child’s abilities and more importantly, their interpersonal skills.

I am often asked about the best way parents can prepare their children for NAPLAN. I would suggest the best thing you can do is to reassure your child that the test is not a ‘big deal’ and to relax and just do their best, as they always do.

This year NAPLAN tests are scheduled as follows:

NAPLAN Writing - Wednesday 15th March

NAPLAN Reading - Friday 17th March

NAPLAN Language Conventions -  Monday  21st March

NAPLAN Mathematics -  Tuesday 22nd March

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s participation in NAPLAN, please speak to their teacher.
