Term 1, Week 8 - Friday 17th March, 2023

Good afternoon OLSC families

It has been a very busy two weeks since the last newsletter including 2 closure days and a public holiday.  As the season changes, I hope you all manage to enjoy some last bursts of sunshine this weekend as we head into the colder months!

Congratulations Isaac

On Wednesday 15th March our staff member Isaac officially celebrated his Australian citizenship.  Congratulations Isaac and well done.

Biennial Staff Conference

Last week the entire staff were involved in our biennial staff conference.  The presenters on day one of the conference were staff from Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Learning Diversity.  The focus of the day was understanding behaviours, understanding Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and an in depth look at specific learning disorders.

Presenters on day two of the conference were from the Centre for Multi-Cultural Youth and the day's learning focussed on the benefits of culturally sustaining schools, concepts of culture and identity, barriers to culturally sustaining schools, empowering student, family and community voice and engaging in cultural self reflection.

There was also some time for staff team building activities!

Happy St Patrick's Day - March 17th

An Old Irish Blessing for St. Patrick’s Day

May your days be many and your troubles be few.

May all God’s blessings descend upon you.

May peace be within you, may your heart be strong.

May you find what you’re seeking wherever you roam.

May the strength of God pilot us, may the wisdom of God instruct us.

May the hand of God protect us, may the word of God direct us.

May thy Salvation, O Lord, be always ours this day and for evermore.

Amen.

Upcoming School Closure Days

There will be a school closure day on Monday 24th April (this is the day prior to the ANZAC day public holiday).  Term 2 will resume on Wednesday 26th April.  The focus of this closure day is Child Safety Standards, Child Safety and Code of Conduct and other compliance requirements for working with children.

Athletics Day Postponed

Our planned school athletics day for April 3rd has been postponed until Term 2.  More information regarding this event will be communicated next term.

Hot Dog and Footy Colours Day

Yesterday we celebrated a footy colours day and hotdog lunch.  All of the proceeds from the casual dress day will be donated to the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday appeal.  Over $350 was raised.  I thank everyone for supporting this very worthy cause.

Gastro Cases Today

Over the course of today we have had a significant number of students present with stomach aches and potentially gastro.  It was disappointing that some students were unwell prior to the commencement of school and still attended.  I remind all parents and carers that if students are unwell to please be vigilant and keep them home from school.

Farewell Michelle

Michelle from our front office has decided to move in a different career direction and will be taking up a new role with a local financial office.  I am sure that each and everyone of you have had dealings with Michelle as the cheery face that greets you in the school office or assists with uniform orders.

On behalf of the whole community we wish you well in your new role and thank you for your time at OLSC.

World Youth Day Fundraiser

Here is a great opportunity to get out of mowing the lawns and more importantly support the parish in fundraising to send some of our local young people to World Youth Day.  Unfortunately they don't travel as far as Bacchus Marsh.

Have a great weekend, stay safe and see you all next week.

Justin and all of the staff at OLSC
