Senior Boys Cricket - Round 2

On Tuesday 23 February, we ventured down to Langwarrin to play Elizabeth Murdoch College at Lloyd Reserve. Very nice it was too, magnificent playing surface. We batted first and got off to a great start with Dhanusha Gamage and Disen Perera opening the batting. In fact after 8 overs we had already scored 64 runs without loss. Sadly, in the 9th over we lost both openers with Disen scoring a well compiled 17 and Dhanusha going for a terrific 44. At that time we needed to consolidate our start and were able to do so with Ben McDonald scoring 23 and Minro Eshwara 12. Avi Kaul did well with 25 and Rohit Chapalamadugu also scored quickly with 27. After 20 overs we finished on 161.

A good score but would it be enough?

Ben struck first with a ball that stayed low and bowled their opening bat for a duck. Not long after Rushil Patel claimed the other. The score was 2/21 from 5 overs, just the start we needed. Minro came on and bowled a beautiful spell with his nagging medium pacers, always on a good line and length. His 4 overs cost only 13 runs, a very miserly effort. Even with this good start it was still touch and go and some of their remaining batsmen did very well. But in the end EMC was only able to score 145 from their allocated overs. Accordingly, the answer was yes, our score was good enough.

Next game will be next Thursday against an undetermined (at this stage) opponent.

Once again this game was played in terrific spirit and the boys from both schools can be proud of the way they conducted themselves.

Seniors Girls Cricket

The region quarter final was played on Tuesday 23 February at Lloyd Park Reserve in Langwarrin. The Senior girls had only 9 players on the day and were very lucky that our opponents had the same from Patterson River SC, however it still made fielding very hard.

Senithi lost the coin toss for Nossal and we had to bat first. We were happy to stay in for the entire 20 overs and our top run scorer was Nandita, followed by Akshaya and Eunice. We made a total of 51 runs in the 20 overs.

Patterson River sent in their opening batswoman who is a member of the Australian u/19 women’s cricket team and a state softball batter and we knew that we had our work cut out for us. Thanks to Rasna, Poppy and Akshaya for having a bowl however they were too good for us and the 2 opening batters made the required runs within 5 overs.

After that we continued with a friendly match to let all of their players have a bat and share the bowling around. It was a great day enjoying cricket and being back at Interschool sport. Fantastic sportsmanship shown by all.

Thank-you to Gopi for her assistance with coaching and scoring on the day.
