Susan Stokes (1965)
We were pleased to welcome Susan Stokes back to Sacré Cœur when she presented the school with a copy of her new book, The Settlers’ Journey, From Loch Ness to the Murray River.
Growing up on the Murray River at Echuca, Susan is well versed in the history of this area.
She drew upon family folklore and stories from her parents to write her wonderful tale of love, adventure, endurance and triumph. Four of her great grandparents settled along the Murray River in the 1850’s. Susan’s family home Cadell, named after Captain Francis Cadell, the first man to navigate the Murray, was built at the time of Federation. This beautiful old home (pictured below) remained in the family until 1989. Isolated during Covid lockdown, Susan drew upon her love of history to write this epic tale.
