VISUAL ARTS
Term 2 is proving to be a busy time for Visual Art students. Year 11s have just begun a photography workshop with artist Rudi Williams where they will experiment with a variety of different photographic processes ranging from cyanotypes, photograms, and pin-hole cameras before exploring the use of digital SLRs. They have also started a 20-week art history course with Brooke Babington who works as a curator at the Heide Museum of Modern Art. Additionally, they are mid way through a generative art workshop with artists Lucy Maddox and Rhys Cousins, exploring notions of place.
In Seminar Studies, Year 12s recently finished a jewellery and silver casting workshop with Claire McArdle. Over the coming weeks, they will be engaging with a variety of guest speakers to discuss various professional pathways within the arts. They will also begin preparing for their mid-year exhibition opening on the 21st of June at VCA Artspace.
Groups of Year 11 students have begun staging their own exhibitions in the Kolarik Gallery. These exhibitions give students the opportunity to show work that they have made outside of school hours. The first show to open is called Free Cash and features the work of Sienna Novak, Vinnie Condon, Elliot Broome, Jaime Hutchinson, Leo Loscher and Chaaya Sharma.
Gallery Studies this term is particularly action-packed. Upcoming exhibitions include Octopus at Gertrude Contemporary, David Noonan at Tarrawarra, and Collective Movements at MUMA which focuses on the work of historic and contemporary First Nations creative practitioners and community groups.
