Principal's Report
WOW! The Birmingham Commonwealth Games have been outstanding viewing over the last week. The inspiration and enjoyment felt by all Australians that have been enjoying the games has been second to none. The fact that we are on the top of the medal count (at this stage) is icing on the cake. Our Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students will be celebrating the Commonwealth Games by having a Junior Games next week. I look forward to hearing and seeing their learning and enjoyment that goes with such a wonderful afternoon.
Planting Trees for the Queen’s Jubilee Grant- Official Opening
Today saw the official opening of our Jubilee Park. The Honourable Alan Tudge, Federal member for Aston and Shadow Education Minister, cut the ribbon and helped our students to celebrate our wonderful (future) canopy of trees that will provide shade for our students and community. The opening took place in our gym and everyone was welcome.
This project received funding from the Australian Government Planting Trees for the Queen’s Jubilee Program. Jubilee Park has been made possible by our school being successful in achieving this grant of $7,500. A plaque has been made and placed on a wooden bench seat near the trees to commemorate this occasion.
BHPS Website
Over the past 6 months we have been working on a new look for our website. With all the new buildings, and facilities and curriculum and programs it is important that our website can keep up to date and reflect who we are and what we stand for.
All staff have had input into the new look website, and I believe it will take us into the foreseeable future. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Tanya Wick, who is one of our office staff, who has been the driver behind organising everybody and working closely with the company that is working with us in producing such a high calibre website presenting our school to the wider community. This new website has launched, and information will be continually added over the next few months and then certainly on a needs basis. The office has had Professional Development on the website this week so please be patient with us as we learn to manage this resource. Please hop on our website and familiarise yourself. I would love to have constructive feedback surrounding the website.
Cadbury Chocolate Fundraiser
Thank you to all our families for either eating your way through the chocolates or having had the opportunity to sell them. This is a major fundraiser for the year, and we are extremely appreciative of your support. Just a reminder that all money must be returned to the school by Friday August 19th.
Prep Enrolments for 2023
If you have a child that will be attending Boronia Heights PS in 2023, we are taking enrolments NOW. The Knox network of schools are requesting that all Prep enrolments are completed by August 12th. If you know anyone who would like to have further information about our school or enrol their child, please ask them to phone the school so we can talk them through the process or book a tour on our website.
Just after August the 12th we will be sending out confirmation letters to all of our families. We strongly suggest that anyone who has not enrolled in a school please do so as a matter of urgency. We are certainly working on the number of classes and require accurate information to complete this.
Maths Olympiad
Congratulations to all students who are part of our Maths Olympiad team. The work, discussions and problem solving that takes place is a credit to all of you. Thank you to Ms Dalrymple for her organisation around this program.
Bunnings BBQ
The Hubsters, led by one of our wonderful parents Leia Barrett, have organised a Bunnings BBQ at Bayswater on Sunday 14th August. Thank you to those families that have already volunteered, however there are still many spots to be filled. Please look at the Facebook Hub Page and/or the latest COMPASS Post to access the google form to sign up. A big shout out and huge thank you to ‘DirecFresh’ at 497 Mountain Hwy Bayswater for once again generously donating all of the sausages required for the day. Please, if you can support them as they have supported us, it would be fantastic. Our bread has also been generously donated by Baker’s Delight Boronia Junction so please support this bakery for all your bread and yummy treats.
BYOD Night – Tuesday 9th August
Year 2 parents are invited to an information night regarding our BYOD Program. Please look out for a COMPASS POST this week for the log in details.
Year 5 planting afternoon
Last week we held a special assembly with our guest Nick Wakeling MP, member for Ferntree Gully, who gave the school 40 native plants to support our environmental program. The Year 5 students and teachers had a lovely afternoon this week planting out the plants, staking them and watering them in.
Enjoy the weekend!
