Opera House Choir Excursion

On Sunday October 16, Ben Venue’s Sydney Festival Choir travelled by train with Mrs Porter, Mr Pryce and Mrs Howlett to perform at the incredible Sydney Opera House. The group stayed at the Sydney Harbour YHA in The Rocks and learned all about this historic location on Monday’s Rocks Walking Tour. Despite very damp conditions the students remained positive and explored The Rocks Museum before walking around Circular Quay to the Opera House for the Dress Rehearsal. We walked back to an early dinner at our accommodation before setting off again, this time for the real thing!

Following a fabulous concert in which all Ben Venue students truly shone, we were all treated to views of Sydney Harbour by night as we walked off some post-performance adrenalin. For many on this trip it was their first experience of Sydney and certainly one they will never forget.

Here’s what some participants had to say:

“Sydney was an awesome experience and I loved watching the Opera House light up from our bedroom window!” Amy Tremayne

“I thought Sydney was great because we had nice rooms and food and the train was the most fun part, but the Sydney Opera House was magnificent. I recommend you go to Sydney to do choir.” Hamish Pilcher

“Going to Sydney was a one in a million chance. I was so excited, the amazing Opera House lit up at night.” Sophia Wells

“Recently we went to Sydney Opera House to sing in the Public Schools Combined Choir. It was really exciting singing in the Opera House and having a way different experience. Everything was amazing…

…a wonderful time and experience in Sydney.” Ryka Pankaj

“Going to the Sydney Opera House was a great experience for me and I really like how when we were walking there, we saw lots of cool stuff on the way. The band in our Opera House concert was one of my favourite things because it was so entertaining, and they were really talented.” Charlie Hamel

“The Opera House was a fun experience, a lot of people and very loud. If you are offered to go, say yes because it’s worth it!” Nora Mulready

It was excellent to be back on stage with our talented students representing their school with pride in Sydney. Now to submit our audition video for 2023!
