Preparation for Holy Week
With Easter being celebrated during the school holidays our traditional ‘Holy Week’ liturgies have been conducted this week. It has been delightful to attend faith filled events with our students, staff and parents that have brought to life the Easter message of faith, hope and reconciliation. The death and resurrection of Jesus is the foundation of our faith and the reason for our existence as a Catholic school. The Lenten period leading up to Easter is always a wonderful time to reflect on our lives and bring ourselves closer to God.
This week we have also farewelled our long-term Primary School Sport Teacher, Mr John Alderman. In the beautiful final Primary School assembly, Miss Antoinette De Pinto, made mention of Mr Alderman’s dedication to our students and his own very strong faith commitment. Our staff providing witness to their faith is a powerful example to our community.
I particularly enjoyed this statement from one of our students:
‘Mr Alderman has worked at JTC for 23 years. Fun Fact, Mr Alderman’s first name is John and this is his 23rd year at John 23rd College..... Coincidence? I think not!’
A sense of humour certainly adds to the enjoyment of spending time with our students and staff.
This week we also wished our Head of Sport, Mr Dave Maxwell, well as he moves to a similar position at Servite College. Like Mr Alderman, Mr Maxwell has served the College with distinction and has always provided a brilliantly positive perspective to staff and students. We also extend our gratitude to Mrs Wendy Williamson as she concludes her tenure as a cheerful and friendly public receptionist at the College. Best wishes also to Mrs Karin Ilich and Mrs Lisa Ferraro and (Primary teachers) and Mrs Alison Pattinson (English) as they commence periods of maternity leave. We wish them well in the exciting times ahead.
