Principals Report

Principal's Report
Welcome back to Term 2. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces on Tuesday morning — from both students and parents! I hope families enjoyed a restful Easter break and are feeling refreshed and ready for a big Term 2 at Sacred Heart.
On Monday, our pupil‑free day, staff participated in a valuable day of professional learning led by Science of Learning experts Dr Jared Cooney Horvath and Dr Nathaniel Swain, along with practical sessions from Katie Roberts‑Hull and Katie Webster from Teach Well. We will continue to strengthen our teaching and learning practices through explicit, direct instruction and by meeting students at their individual point of need using the Gradual Release of Responsibility model.
On Tuesday evening, Fr Junjun met with our Sacramental students and their families to explore the connection between Baptism and Confirmation. At Baptism, parents chose to bring their child into a close relationship with God and into the Catholic faith community. This term, our Year 4 students will affirm this choice as they prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation, focusing on the seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit: Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge, Right Judgement, Courage, Reverence, and Wonder and Awe in God’s Presence. Please keep the following students in your thoughts and prayers as they prepare to celebrate the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist: Harper B, Myles, Olive, Athena, Silas, Beau, Odette, Artie, Harry, Austin, Flynn, Jack C, Isla, Jimmy, Bodhi, Layla, Harper P, Dom, Alice, Archie, Lola, Nixon, Frankie, Jack O, Lilliana, Taz, Isaac and Paddy.
I would also like to warmly welcome two new staff members to our community. Kaitlyn Ackerly joins us in Year 5B. Kaitlyn will be a familiar face to many, having previously worked at Sacred Heart as a Learning Support Officer, and we are delighted to welcome her back now as a classroom teacher. Lily Cameron has joined our Year 1 team as a Learning Support Officer. Lily graduated high school last year and is eager to support our young learners. Please make both Kaitlyn and Lily feel very welcome.
We are also pleased to welcome Elise back to our school canteen and extend a big thank you to Jennika for her wonderful work in Elise’s absence. Elise’s menu has been shared with families, and the canteen will continue to operate Tuesday to Friday each week. Elise also catered lunch for staff on Monday, and the feedback was extremely positive!
Term 2 promises to be a busy and exciting one, with Sacramental preparations, Mother’s Day celebrations, Catholic Education Week and Sandhurst Switches Off in Week 3, Walk Safely to School Day in Week 4, 2027 Prep school tours in Week 5, as well as cross country, Year 5 camp, the celebration of the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist, and Sacred Heart Day in the weeks that follow. Please refer to the Term 2 Term Ahead below for key dates.
A reminder that our second pupil‑free day for the term is Friday 5 June, creating a long weekend alongside the King’s Birthday public holiday.
Finally, please remember that hats must continue to be worn and sunscreen applied while the UV index remains at 3 or above. In line with our Sun Protection Policy, students not following these guidelines will be redirected to shaded areas.
Please continue to keep our Year 4 Sacramental students and their families in your thoughts and prayers as they journey through this special time of faith.
Take care and God bless,
Jarrod
